Jones Scores Career-High 26 In Loss To Caldwell

Scores 16 In Final Quarter

Waterbury, Conn. - Junior Tyra Jones scored a career-high 26 points and grabbed seven rebounds as the Post University women's basketball team lost 89-64 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game.

Jones had 16 of her points in the fourth quarter.

Caldwell jumped out to a 16-6 lead early on in the first quarter, but the Eagles stormed back on an 8-3 run to make it a 19-14 game as freshman Gabriela Middleton (Coral Springs, Fla.) led the run with five points in the stretch. Caldwell would take a 21-14 lead at the end of the first.

The Cougars extended their lead to 45-27 after the second quarter thanks in large part to a 10-2 run to close the half. Sharell Sanders scored 10 of her 14 points in the first half for the Cougars.

Caldwell outscored Post 25-11 in the third quarter, but the Eagles were able to turn on their offense in the fourth quarter.

During the beginning of the fourth, Jones scored eight straight points for the Eagles with three of those baskets coming on assists from Middleton as Jones was able to slip behind the defense on three layups. She'd also finish the quarter with six straight points to book end her phenomenal quarter.

Post outscored Caldwell 26-19 in the final quarter.

Junior Jovan Kingwood (Norwich, Conn.) finished with nine points for the Eagles and Middleton finished with seven.

Antoinette led the Cougars in scoring with 17 points. Sanders finished with 14 points, eight assists and six rebounds for Caldwell.

With the loss, Post is now 0-9 on the season and 0-4 in the CACC. Caldwell is now 5-4 overall and 3-1 in the CACC.

Up next for the Eagles is a home game against Dominican at 1 p.m.
