WATERBURY, Conn. – The Post University women's basketball team was defeated by Dominican 69-51 at the Drubner Center on Saturday afternoon in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) matchup. The Eagles grabbed a season-high 18 offensive rebounds in the loss.
With Post down 32-15 with 3:33 left in the second quarter, the Eagles staged a 10-0 run in a span of just two minutes to pull within seven points at 32-25. Junior
Tyra Jones (Rochester, N.Y.) scored seven points during the run, including a fast break layup after a steal. Post trailed 37-25 at the half.
The Eagles rolled off another 10-0 run to close out the third quarter. Junior
Jovan Kingwood (Norwalk, Conn.) and Jones combined for eight of the 10 points during the stretch. Kingwood made an athletic reverse layup and the ensuing free throw as part of the run as Post was down by 14 through three quarters.
Post made a season-best 21 free-throws. Jones finished 8-for-10 from the line and scored 12 points to go with seven rebounds. Kingwood also scored 12 points and had two steals. Freshman Gabriella Middleton (Coral Springs, Fla.) added nine points.
The Eagles outrebounded Dominican 41-36 on the day.
Post returns to action Monday at American International in Springfield, Mass. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
