WATERBURY, Conn. – The Post University women's volleyball team defeated Concordia 3-0 in its final regular-season home match of the season. The Eagles took the sets with scores of 25-18, 25-9, and 25-18. With the win Post has clinched a home match to open the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Tournament.
Senior
Hailey Griffin (Plainfield, Conn.) aced a serve to put the Eagles in front 19-13 in the first set. Junior
Skylar German (Kansas City, Mo.) had five kills in the set while freshman
Brianna Root (Bristol, Conn.) put up 11 assists to start the night.
The Eagles came out firing in the second set and led from start to finish. Midway through the set senior
Kristine Ripson (Youngstown, N.Y.) had two straight kills and a block to put Post ahead 15-7. The Eagles would outscore Concordia 10-2 the rest of the way. Junior
Kerrin Kallmann (Lake Grove, N.Y.) held serve for an 8-0 run down the stretch.
Concordia led 7-4 early in the final set, but a kill by
Hailey Griffin sparked an 8-2 run to five the Eagles the lead for good. Griffin had three kills during the run, Root had an ace and a block. The Clippers cut the deficit to 20-17 late before Post scored five of the last six points to secure the match.
German led Post with 13 kills to go with five blocks and seven digs. Ripson added seven kills and a block. Root finished with 33 assists and six digs. Senior
Janiellee Alvarez (Norwich, Conn.) led all players with 12 digs.
The Eagles visit Bloomfield on Friday night in a battle for first place in the CACC North Division. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
