Waterbury, Conn. – The Post University women's basketball team dropped a 74-47 game to Southern New Hampshire University in a non-conference game on Sunday afternoon.
The Eagles are now 0-7 on the season, while SNHU improves to 6-0.
After a tight first 2:30 minutes of the game, and the Penmen leading 5-4, they went on a 22-4 run to close out the first quarter for a 27-8 lead.
Southern New Hampshire extended its lead to 42-16 lead at the half. Freshman
Gabriela Middleton (Coral Springs, Fla.) and juniors
Jovan Kingwood (Norwich, Conn.) and
Shontera Williams (Marksville, La.) each had four points in the first half for the Eagles.
The Eagles picked up their offense in the second half, including going on a 7-0 run to cut the deficit to 23 2:26 into the third quarter. Leading the charge was junior
Tyra Jones (Rochester, N.Y.) who scored five points during the run, including going 3-for-3 from the free throw line.
Both teams played an even 19-19 fourth quarter as sophomore
Toni Deren (Greenlawn, N.Y.) scored all seven of her points in the quarter.
Kingwood finished with eight points to lead the Eagles. Williams finished with six points and six rebounds and Jones had seven points and four rebounds.
Erin Doherty and Kylie Lorenzen each scored 12 points to lead the Penmen. Olivia Conrad added 10 points.
Up next for the Eagles is a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference road game at Felician on December 2. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
