Eagles Drop Home-Opener To Roberts Wesleyan, 72-58

Jones Has Double-Double

Waterbury, Conn. - A fourth quarter comeback attempt fell short as the Post University women's basketball team dropped a 72-58 game to Roberts Wesleyan on Friday afternoon at the Drubner Center.

With the loss, the Eagles move to 0-4 on the young season.

Junior Tyra Jones (Rochester, N.Y.) notched a double-double for the Eagles with 16 points and 11 rebounds. She was 6-for-7 from the field. Junior Jovan Kingwood (Norwich, Conn.) Led the way for the Eagles in scoring with 19 points.

Roberts Wesleyan took control of the first half, going into the break, leading 35-12.

The Eagles weren't able to make much headway in the third quarter as both team scored 19 points to keep Post's deficit the same.

However, in the fourth quarter, the Eagles were able to mount a little bit of a comeback as Jones scored four points and sophomore Georgia Black (Burlington, Vt.) scored another two to knock the deficit to 20 with 7:27 left in the game.

After two free throws gave Roberts Wesleyan a 61-37 lead, the Eagles rattled off an 18-5 run in less than three minutes to cut the deficit to 66-55 with 2:29 left. Jones scored five points in the stretch and Black and Kingwood both hit threes during the stretch. It would be as close as the Eagles would get.

Samantha Courtney led Roberts Wesleyan with 17 points and 13 rebounds.

Up next for the Eagles is an out of conference home game against Southern Connecticut State University at 1 p.m.
