Post Loses To SCSU, 70-53

Middleton Leads Post With 13

Waterbury, Conn. - Freshman Gabriela Middleton (Coral Springs, Fl.) led the Post University women's basketball team with 13 points as it fell to Southern Connecticut State University, 70-53 in a non-conference game at the Drubner Center on Saturday afternoon.

With the loss, the Eagles are now 0-5 on the season.

The Owls jumped out to an 11-4 lead out the gate thanks to Jackie Beathea, who scored nine of the Owls points in the stretch. After going up by as many as 13 points in the first quarter, the Eagles were able to trim the lead to 10 on a 35 foot buzzer beater from Middleton to make it a 20-10 game at the end of the first.

The Owls would extend their lead to 18 points by the end of the second quarter due in large part to four three pointers to account for 12 of their 18 points in the quarter.

Sophomore Lexus Childs Harris (New London, Conn.) and junior Jovan Kingwood (Norwich, Conn.) each had five points for the Eagles to pace them in the first half.

Post's offense would come alive in the third quarter, outscoring the Owls, 21-19 to cut the deficit to 16 going into the final frame. Middleton led the charge in the quarter with eight points. Junior Dericka Sims (Chesapeake, Va.) added six points of her 10 points in the quarter for Post.

The Eagles were unable to get much closer in the fourth quarter, as the Owls pulled away for the win.

Bethea finished with 21 points and 22 rebounds to lead the Owls. Danielle Powell scored 13 points for SCSU.

Up next for the Eagles is their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference home opener against Nyack on November 24. Tip off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at the Drubner Center
