Bloomfield, N.J. - Junior
Jovan Kingwood (Norwalk, Conn.) led the Post University women's basketball team with 10 points, but it wasn't enough as it dropped a 70-39 decision to Bloomfield in its Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference opener.
With the loss, the Eagles drop to 0-3 overall and 0-1 in the CACC.
The Eagles took the lead early in the early going scoring the first three points of the game on a jumper from Kingwood and a free throw from junior
Nicole Sheloski (Hudson Falls, N.Y.). The Bears, however, would go on a 15-4 run to close out the half and go into the second quarter with a 15-7 lead. Kingwood scored four points in the quarter.
In the second quarter, the Bears extended their lead to 29-12 after a 14-5 run to begin the quarter. The Eagles briefly trimmed the deficit down to 11 after a 6-0 run, thanks to two points each from juniors
Tyra Jones (Rochester, N.Y.),
Dericka Sims (Chesapeake, Va.) and sophomore
Toni Deren (Greenlawn, N.Y.). Bloomfield would go into the half with a 32-18 lead.
The Bears pulled away in the second half, outscoring the Eagles 38-21 in the half. Deren would score seven of her nine points in the second half and Jones scored four of her seven points in the half.
Tianna Smith of Bloomfield led all players in scoring with 16 points. Chyna Golden nearly notched a double-double for the Bears with ten points and nine rebounds.
Up next for the Eagles is an out of conference home game against Roberts Wesleyan. Tip-off is scheduled for 4 p.m.
