MANSFIELD, Pa. – Junior
Chris Leggio (Brewster, N.Y.) of the Post University sprint football team made 11 tackles on Saturday to break the career record for total tackles as the Eagles were defeated 27-0 at Mansfield.
The Mountaineers recovered the opening kickoff and drove down the field in three plays to take a 7-0 lead early on. Post turned the ball over on their first possession of the game and Mansfield took over on the Eagles' three-yard line. The Post defense forced Mansfield back and on fourth down Drew Beckerink missed a 31-yard field goal.
Late in the quarter, Leggio recovered a fumble in Mansfield territory, but the Eagles could not score and turned the ball over on downs deep on the home side of the field.
Junior
Fabian Santa Cruz (Vista, Calif.) picked up a fumble after a sack by sophomore
Trevor Patterson (Wildomar, Calif.) late in the second quarter, but Post was once again stopped on fourth down in the Mansfield zone.
Freshman Neajuan Jackson (Land O'Lakes, Fla.) had rushes of 18 and 14-yards to start an Eagles' drive midway through the third quarter to get the ball on the opponent's side of the field, but the drive stalled. Jackson led Post with 86 yards on the ground.
The Mansfield points came on three rushing touchdowns and two field goals. Aren Harris had a touchdown and led the team with 106 yards on the ground.
Junior
Greg Volpe (North Haven, Conn.) threw for 110 yards. Senior Jay'len Mahan (Waterbury, Conn.) caught five balls for 80 yards.
Leggio surpassed Kyle Lagasse for the top spot on the tackles list. Lagasse finished with 146 stops while Leggio now has 155 career tackles.
Penalties were an issue for both teams as they combined for 22 flags and 258 penalty yards. The Eagles had 13 penalties for 167 yards.
Post closes out its season next Saturday at home against Cornell. Game time at LaMoy Field is set for 12 p.m.
