USciences Has Big Second Half To Top Post

Deren Hits Four Three-Pointers

Waterbury, Conn. –
Junior Deaisia Acklin (Bronx, N.Y.) scored 22 points to lead three Eagles in double figures, but it wasn't enough as they lost 92-69 to USciences in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game.

It was the seventh straight loss for the Eagles. They now stand at 3-10 overall and 3-2 in the CACC.

Freshman Lexus Childs-Harris (New London, Conn.) added 17 points, and classmate Toni Deren (Greenlawn, N.Y.) scored 12 for the Eagles.

The Devils jumped out to an early 7-1 lead before the Eagles would go on a 10-2 run over the next minute in a half to take an 11-9 lead. The teams would go back in forth over the course of the first half before Deren hit a three-pointer with five seconds left in the half to give the Eagles a 36-35 lead at the break. Deren went 3-for-4 in the first half from long range and 4-for-5 in the game. Acklin scored 10 points in the half to lead the Eagles.

Brianne Traub scored 12 points in the half to lead the Devils. The defense of the Eagles held the Devils to just 3-of-20 shooting from three-point range in the first half.

The second half did not start off the way the Eagles wanted it to, as the Devils went on a 25-9 run to begin the half over the first 7:39. The Devils, unlike the first half, started the half 5-for-5 from three-point range during that stretch. The opening run was all the Devils needed as they kept the Eagles at bay the rest of the way.

Childs-Harris scored 11 points in the half. Acklin scored 12. The Devils were 8-for-13 from three-point range in the second half.

Traub finished with a double-double for the Devils with 28 points and 10 rebounds. Jessica Sylvester added 26 points.

Up next for the Eagles is an out-of-conference road game at Roberts Wesleyan on Jan. 5 at 7 p.m.
