Bench Comes Up Huge In Overtime Win

Sheloski Scores Career High 20 Points

Nyack, NY - The bench came up huge as the Post University Eagles women's basketball team won its second straight game as it it defeated Nyack, 76-73 in overtime in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game on Saturday afternoon.

With the win, the Eagles moved to 5-12 overall and 5-3 in the CACC. Nyack moved to 1-14 overall and 1-8 in the CACC.

Sophomore Nicole Sheloski (Hudson Falls, N.Y.) led the way with a career high 20 points on 7 of 11 shooting from the field. Junior Deaisia Acklin (Bronx, N.Y.) finished with 17 points and nine rebounds.

The game looked destined for a blow out early on as the Eagles jumped out to a 20-0 lead for the first 7:51 of the game. Sheloski scored eight points during the stretch. Sophomore Jessica Ayala and Acklin scored four points apiece during the stretch. 

Nyack managed to get it together offensively the remainder of the half, outscoring the Eagles 21-11 to stay in striking distance going into the second half. 

Post held Nyack to 28 percent shooting (9-for 32) during the first half.

The Eagles were again off to a hot start to begin the second half, extending their lead to as much as 16 with 10:27 remaining as Sheloski, Ayala and Acklin picked up the scoring load throughout the first portion of the second half.

Nyack nipped away at the lead, and went on a furious 16-4 run in the final five minutes to send the game into overtime with the game tied, 68-68.

Alyssa Gatti scored 11 of her 25 points in the second half and Shabreka Edwards scored 12 of her 14 points in the second frame to lead the way for the Warriors.

In overtime, however, Ayala and sophomore Dericka Sims (Chesapeake, Va.) were huge off of the bench, scoring six of the team's eight points in the extra frame as the Eagles never trailed. The defense was tough, too, only allowing five points on 2-for-11 shooting from the field. 

Ayala finished with 10 points for the Eagles off of the bench. Sims finished with six points

The Eagles made the most of the turnovers they forced, scoring 25 points off of 26 Nyack turnovers. 

Up next for the Eagles is a CACC road game at Felician in Rutherford, N.J. on January 21. Tip off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
