PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Post University men's basketball team was defeated by top-seeded Philadelphia, 84-55, in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Quarterfinals on Saturday afternoon. The Eagles have fallen to the Rams in the opening-round in each of the past three seasons.
Senior
Effrin Ellison (Waterbury, Conn.) was the lone Eagle in double-digits with 10 points on the afternoon. Senior
Jerry Cummings (Queens, N.Y.) scored nine points and had a team-high five rebounds. Classmate
Derrick Strong (St. Louis, Mo.) had six points, five boards, and two steals.
Senior
Stephen Perry Jr. (Westhampton, N.J.) hit a jumper early in the game to tie the score 2-2. It would be the only time the game would be tied all day as the Rams grabbed control with a 14-2 run and led 16-4 at the 15:07 mark of the first.
Ellison and senior
Devin Willis (Seattle, Wash.) each hit a basket to close the deficit to eight and force a Philadelphia timeout with 12:17 left in the first. The Rams led by as many as 21 in the first half. Perry Jr. scored seven points in the period as the Eagles trailed 43-25 at the break.
After falling behind by 21 early in second, Post staged an 11-3 run to close the gap to 51-38 with 14:34 left. Junior
AJ Harris (Inglewood, Calif.) and Ellison each scored four points during the stretch. The Rams outscored the Eagles 33-17 the rest of the way. Senior
Ryan Rock (Point Hope, Alaska) hit a three, grabbed a board, and dished out an assist in the final seconds.
The Eagles outrebounded Philadelphia 11-6 offensively which led to an 11-9 advantage is second-chance points. Post also committed just five turnovers on the day. Peter Alexis led the Rams with 24 points, 13 rebounds, and nine blocked shots.
Post finishes the season at 11-16 overall. Strong led the team at 13.3 points per game. Junior
Josh Tatum (Greenville, N.C.) grabbed a team-high 6.4 boards per game and Harris led Post with 95 assists.
