Men’s Basketball Closes Regular Season With 96-70 Victory At Georgian Court

Strong Nearly Records Triple-Double with 18 Points,10 Assists, and Eight Boards

LAKEWOOD, N.J. – The Post University men's basketball team defeated Georgian Court 96-70 on Saturday afternoon to close out the regular season. The Eagles finish with an 11-15 record overall and 11-8 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play.
 
Senior Derrick Strong (St. Louis, Mo.) contributed 18 points, a career-high 10 assists, eight rebounds, and three steals in the victory. Senior Stephen Perry Jr. (Westhampton, N.J.) was 5-for-6 from distance for 19 points. The Eagles made 16 three-pointers, their most since 2009 and the tied for the third-most in a single game in CACC history.
 
Post grabbed control with a 16-3 run out of the gate and never looked back, leading by double-digits the rest of the way. Perry Jr. hit three from behind the arc over the first three minutes to get the Eagles going. Post was on fire in the first half as it shot at a 71.4 percent clip.
 
Ahead 35-21 with 8:40 remaining in the half, senior Zach Krischer (Port Jefferson, N.J.) hit a three. Post regained possession on a rebound by Strong. Perry Jr. drew a foul and made both free-throws to give the Eagles their largest lead of the first at 40-21. Georgian Court went on a 9-1 run to cut the deficit to 12, but would not get any closer as Post headed into the break ahead 54-36.
 
A jumper by senior Jerry Cummings (Queens, N.Y.), who finished with 13 points and seven rebounds, with 9:10 left in the second gave the Eagles their largest lead of the game at 79-50.
 
Post shot a season-best 60.3 percent from the field and 55.2 percent from distance.
 
For the third-consecutive year, the Eagles will play at top-seeded Philadelphia in the CACC Quarterfinals. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 1.
