Post Drops Exhibition Game To UConn

Ripson and Pugh Score In Double Figures


Hartford, Conn. - The Post University Eagles dropped a 117-44 game to University of Connecticut on Sunday afternoon at the XL Center in Hartford. 

The Eagles were led by senior Jacquelynne Pugh (Grahamsville, N.Y.) who scored 14 points on 5-for-14 shooting. Pugh also hit two three-pointers.

Junior Kristine Ripson (Youngstown, N.Y.) added 13 points, including 11 in the first half. She also tied for the team lead in rebounds with sophomore Liz Falcigno (Middletown, Conn.) with four.

The Eagles fell behind 9-0 early before Ripson scored the first bucket of the game against the defending National Champions. The Huskies then went on a 31-3 run to go up 40-5 with 10:31 remaining.

Post pulled off a l 5-0 run of their own midway through the first half as Pugh hit a three-pointer, stole the ball on the next possession and set up a layup for Ripson, making the score 43-12.

The game went in to the half with UConn leading, 68-27. The Eagles shot 10-38 in the first half, including 3 of 15 from three-point territory.

In the second half, Pugh scored six points. Freshmen Lexus Childs-Harris (New London, Conn) and Nicolle Viselli (Groveland, Ma.) each scored three. They both also led the team in steals with two.

Breanna Stewart - the defending AP Player of the Year - led all scorers with 27 points for UConn. Morgan Tuck had 22 points and 15 rebounds for the Huskies.

Up next for the Eagles is their first regular season game, as they take on Merrimack in North Andover, Ma. The game is slated to start at 5:30 p.m.
