Post Drops Season Opener

Acklin Scores 17



North Andover, Mass. - The Post University women's basketball team dropped its season opener, 77-57 to Merrimack in an out-of-conference game.

Junior Deaisia Acklin (Bronx, N.Y.) scored 17 points to lead the Eagles (0-1).

Post jumped out to a 10-5 lead early on, thanks to two buckets each from Acklin and sophomore Nicole Sheloski (Hudson Falls, N.Y.).

Merrimack would then go on a 38-13 run and go into the half up 43-23. Cassi Amenta scored 13 in the first half for Merrimack. Acklin scored 11 for the Eagles.

The Eagles shot better in the second half, going 12-for-28 (42.9 percent). Freshman Lexis Childs-Harris (New London, Conn.) scored seven points in the half. Junior Jacquelynne Pugh (Grahamsville, N.Y.) scored all five of her points in the second half. The Eagles, however, were unable to make up any ground on the Warriors, as both teams scored 34 points in the half.

Childs-Harris finished the game with nine points. Junior Kristine Ripson (Youngstown, N.Y.) had six points and six rebounds.

Amenta finished with 19 points for the Warriors. Aria Johnson had a double-double for Merrimack,  scoring 10 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.

Up next for the Eagles is No. 5 Bentley on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. in North Andover, Mass.
