Waterbury, Conn. - Sophomore Liz Falcigno (Middletown, Conn.) scored 25 points, but it wasn't enough, as the Post University women's basketball team dropped an 86-70 game to New York Institute of Technology in an out-of-conference game.
With the loss, the Eagles fall to 1-3 overall. They are 1-0 in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference.
The Eagles did not hold a lead the entire game as the Bears jumped out to a 14-4 lead to start the game. The Eagles would then cut the deficit to 14-10 after a 6-0 run, which was capped by a layup from junior Deaisia Acklin (Bronx, N.Y.).Â
The Bears would then hit the gas pedal again, going on a 17-9 run to go up, 31-19.
Post would not go quietly, going on a 10-2 run to cut the deficit to four points again before the Bears scored the last four points of the half to go up 37-29 at the break.
Falcigno scored 11 of her points in the first half. Freshman Toni Deren (Greenlawn, N.Y.) scored all seven of her points in the first half. Classmate Lexus Childs-Harris scored four of her 11 points in the half.
Dina Ragab scored 15 points in the first half for the Bears. She led the game with 27 points overall.
The Bears would jump out to a 52-38 lead in the second half after a three pointer from Shanice Allen. The Eagles wouldn't get closer than 10 points the rest of the game. Allen would finish with 15 points in the game for the Bears. Julie Williams and Shannon Duer each had 11 for NYIT,
Falcigno scored 14 points in the second half., including going 7-for-8 from the free throw line.Â
The Eagles hit 21-of-30 free throws. The Bears won the rebounding edge, 53-35. Childs-Harris had a team-high seven rebounds.
