Men’s Basketball Falls At Dominican, 73-66

Lockwood and Mareno Finish In Double-Figures

ORANGEBURG, N.Y. – Down 58-45 with ten minutes remaining, the Post University men's basketball team came back to tie the game late but were defeated by Dominican 73-66 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action on Saturday afternoon.

Early on neither team could gain an advantage as the lead changed hands six times over the first ten minutes. Post took its largest lead at 19-15 after freshman Malik Howze (Detroit, Mich.) hit from distance off an assist from classmate Joseph Lockwood (London, England) with 8:25 left in the first.

Nick Smith led the Chargers back in front 26-20 with five points as part of an 11-1 run. Sophomore Jah'sheme Ringgold (Easton, Md.) tied the score 26-26 with steal and a dunk with just under two minutes left. Dominican took a 32-28 lead into the break.

The Chargers extended their advantage to seven to start the second half, but Post responded with seven straight points capped by a three-pointer by senior Nardie Bogues (Baltimore, Md.) to tied the game 37-37.

The Eagles were unable to contain Smith, who finished with a game-high 36 points, as he scored 15 straight Dominican points to help build their largest lead of the game of 13 with 10:38 left. Post would not go down easy as freshman Matt Mareno (San Francisco, Calif.) scored six of his 12 points to tie the game at 63-63 with 4:07 left.

Post would not be able to grab the lead as Dominican scored on its next possession and led the remainder of the way. The Eagles pulled within two late after a three-pointer by junior Nick Lawson (Woodbury, N.J.), but the Chargers scored the final five points of the contest.

Lockwood led Post with 15 points and nine boards. Bogues added five points, six rebounds, and five assists. The Eagles won the battle of the boards, holding a 41-33 advantage overall and 18-6 offensively. Dominican outscored Post 44-30 in the paint.

The Eagles return to action Sunday, November 30 at home against Stonehill. Tip-off is set for 3:30 p.m.
