Volleyball Falls To Bridgeport In NCAA Regional

Post Finishes Season At 22-11

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – The eighth-seeded Post University volleyball team was defeated by top-seeded Bridgeport 3-0 on Thursday night in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The Eagles finish the season with a record of 22-11.

Sophomore Skylar German (Kansas City, Mo.) led Post with 11 kills on the night. Classmate Morgan Griffin (Plainfield, Conn.) added nine digs and four kills. Senior Julia Slyaktina (Moscow, Russia) recorded 22 assists in the loss.

Bridgeport managed to come out on their home court on a tear, storming ahead 6-1 in the opening set. German and Brown landed a couple of timely kills to put the Eagles back within two points, trailing 8-10. The Purple Knights put together a devastating 10-2 run that gave them a 10-point advantage heading into the latter stages of the set. The Eagles just could not find a rhythm offensively and fell to Bridgeport 25-13 in the first set.

The Eagles shook the early jitters and came out strong in the second set. This set was highlighted with back-and-forth action and neither team gained a lead larger than three points. The Eagles shared the ball well offensively and were able to pressure the Bridgeport defense and capitalize on its errors. The two teams were knotted in a 22-22 tie down the stretch before the Purple Knights edged the Eagles 25-23.

Again, Bridgeport jumped ahead to an early 6-2 lead in the third set. Post battled back to shrink its deficit to 9-7. The Purple Knights rattled off a 13-3 run that gave them a commanding 22-10 advantage. Bridgeport went on to win the third set 25-12 and advance to the next round.
