Preview: Post Returns Home After Month-Long Road Trip

Men’s Basketball Looks to Snap 5-Game Losing Skid

WATERBURY, Conn. – The Post University men's basketball team returns home to the Drubner Center for the first time in over a month with hopes of bringing its five-game losing streak to a halt. The Caldwell Cougars come to town on Wednesday evening for a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest. Tipoff is scheduled for 8 p.m.

Senior Jerry Cummings (Queens, N.Y.) had a strong showing off the bench scoring a season-high 18 points for the Eagles. Post got off to a hot start leading by as much as 10 late in the first half after Cummings nailed a three-pointer.

Led by Cummings and fellow senior Stephen Perry (Westhampton, N.J.), Post took a 32-25 lead into the break. Perry notched nine points in the contest.

Post kept pouring it on early in the second half opening up a 13-point lead with 13:51 left in the game. However, Bentley used a 17-4 run to claw its way back into it. The Falcons went on to cap off the game on a 25-4 run.

Senior Josh Tatum (Greenville, N.C.) had a team-high five rebounds. It was the second loss for Post in two days at the James Clancy Memorial Tournament, and it was the fifth loss in a row for the Eagles.

Scouting the Cougars
Caldwell has gotten off to a fairly strong start this season posting an overall record of 8-5. The Cougars (4-2 CACC) are a game and a half ahead of the Eagles in the North Division. The last time out, the Cougars edged Chestnut Hill 67-64 on the road. Caldwell has a balanced attack on offense with five players averaging at least 11 points per game and is second in the CACC putting up 79.1 points a contest. The Cougars lead the conference in field goal percentage at 47.8 percent.

All-Time Series Against Caldwell
The Eagles are 13-7 all-time against the Cougars and have won the last seven meetings between the two schools. Post was last defeated by Caldwell 83-77 back in 2010.

Eagles Among The Leaders
Effrin Ellison leads the CACC with a 54.1 shooting percentage from behind the arc. Derrick Strong is second in the conference with 2.2 steals per game, which is good for 43rd in the nation. A.J. Harris is tied for 6th in the CACC averaging 1.8 steals per contest. The Eagles are in the top-50 in the country in three-pointers made per game (8.5).

Coming Up Short
Out of Post's 10 losses this season, six came by just a combined 20 points. In two of the games, the Eagles had a last-second chance for victory. Against Bridgeport, Post had possession with 0:04 left in an 87-85 defeat. Against LIU-Post, the Eagles had two chances in the final three seconds before falling 67-66. Post hit two late shots against Nyack to send the game into two overtimes, but came up short 106-101.

Honored For Defensive Prowess
Derrick Strong was named CACC Defensive Player of the week on Dec. 9. The senior had a career-high six steals in Post's victory over Wilmington. He is the second Eagle to receive the honor this season after AJ Harris on Nov. 11. In his Eagles debut against Southern New Hampshire on Nov. 9, Harris recorded seven steals, which was the highest single-game total since the 2006-07 season.

Post hits the road yet again heading to Philadelphia to battle USciences on Saturday, Jan. 11 at 3 p.m.
