WATERBURY, Conn. – Coming off a huge victory on Tuesday night the Post University men's basketball team is back at home on Saturday afternoon against Goldey-Beacom. The Eagles have won four of their last five games and three in a row at the Drubner Center. The Lightning are also streaking and have won their last two games.

The Eagles played tough defense down the stretch as they defeated Dominican on Tuesday night. Junior
AJ Harris (Inglewood, Calif.) swiped the ball from Nick Smith with 0.8 left in the game and was fouled immediately. Harris missed the front end of the one-and-one. The Eagles defense tipped a pass out of bounds with under a second left. Smith had one last chance at the buzzer, but the attempt fell short.

Jerry Cummings (Queens, N.Y.) hit from distance on two straight possessions as the Eagles took their largest lead of the first half at 35-27 with 3:37 left. Post forced 12 turnovers in the period and led 37-32 at the break.

Derrick Strong (St. Louis, Mo.) scored eight straight points early in the second as Post built a 49-38 lead at the 15:49 mark of the half. Strong was 4-for-5 from distance and finished with a team-high 16 points. Dominican got back into the game with a 19-7 run to pull ahead 61-60 with 5:30 remaining before Post took the lead for good.

Scouting the Lightning
Goldey-Beacom has won its last two games and currently sits in fourth place in the CACC South Division at a record of 8-10 overall and 6-6 in the conference. Donte McGill leads the Lightning in scoring at 14.4 points per game. Jarrel Lane is fourth in the CACC at 4.7 assists per contest. Goldey-Beacom is the top three-point shooting team in the league at 38.0 percent from deep and are 27
th in the nation with 4.8 blocks per game.

Juggling The Lineup
Post has used eight different starting lineups this season and a total of 12 players have made at least one start.
Derrick Strong has started 17 of the Eagles' 18 games, only coming off the bench in the opener against Southern New Hampshire.

Post boast two of the top three three-point shooters in the conference as
Derrick Strong (46.7%) and
Effrin Ellison (45.5%) are first and third, respectively. Strong is also second in the CACC at 2.4 steals per game, which is good for 15
th in the nation. Post is second in the league with a 36.6 shooting percentage from distance and 7.7 steals per game. The Eagles are 44
th in the country with 8.5 threes made per contest.

Hitting The Glass
After struggling on the glass early in the season, the Eagles have picked up the pace as of late. Before its last game, Post had outrebounded its opponent in three straight outings. The Eagles grabbed a season-high 48 boards, 13 more than their opponent, in a 79-50 victory over Concordia. Post also outrebounded Felician and Holy Family. The Eagles are 3-1 in games in which they grab more boards than their opponents this season.

Coming Up Short
Out of Post's losses this season, six have come by just a combined 20 points. In two of the games, the Eagles had a last-second chance for victory. Against Bridgeport, Post had possession with 0:04 left in an 87-85 defeat. Last time out against LIU-Post, the Eagles had two chances in the final three seconds before falling 67-66. Post hit two late shots against Nyack to send the game into two overtimes, but came up short 106-101.

Honored For Defensive Prowess
Derrick Strong was named CACC Defensive Player of the week on Dec. 9 and Jan. 20. Strong tied a career-high with six steals in Post's 79-50 victory over Concordia on Jan. 14. The senior also had six steals in Post's victory over Wilmington on Dec. 7. He is the second Eagle to receive the honor this season after
AJ Harris on Nov. 11. In his Eagles debut against Southern New Hampshire on Nov. 9, Harris recorded seven steals, which was the highest single-game total since the 2006-07 season.

The Road Ahead
The Eagles hit the road for an inter-division matchup at Nyack on Wednesday, Feb. 5 at 8 p.m. Earlier this season the Warriors defeated Post 106-101 in double-overtime.
