WATERBURY, Conn. – Ahead 71-70 with 0.08 remaining, the Post University men's basketball team held on after a last-second attempt by Dominican for its fourth victory in its last five games. The Eagles improve to 6-12 overall and 6-5 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play this season.
 
Junior 
AJ Harris (Inglewood, Calif.) swiped the ball from Nick Smith with 0:08 left in the game and was fouled immediately. Harris missed the front end of the one-and-one and Robert Hueston grabbed the board for the Chargers. The Eagles defense tipped a pass out of bounds with under a second left. Smith had one last chance at the buzzer, but the attempt fell short.
 
Post built a 20-13 lead midway through the first half as senior 
Effrin Ellison (Waterbury, Conn.) put back a miss by senior 
Stephen Perry Jr. (Westhampton, N.J.). Justin Ringen hit back-to-back threes as part of an 8-0 run to give Dominican its first lead of the night at 21-20 with 8:16 remaining in the first half.
 
Senior 
Jerry Cummings (Queens, N.Y.) hit from distance on two straight possessions as the Eagles took their largest lead of the half at 35-27 with 3:37 left. Post forced 12 turnovers in the period and led 37-32 at the break.
 
Senior 
Derrick Strong (St. Louis, Mo.) scored eight straight points early in the second as Post built a 49-38 lead at the 15:49 mark of the half. Strong was 4-for-5 from distance and finished with a team-high 16 points. Ellison found Perry Jr. behind the arc with 13:38 left to give the Eagles their largest lead of the game at 56-44.
 
Dominican got back into the game with a 19-7 run to pull ahead 61-60 with 5:30 remaining before Post took the lead for good.
 
Senior 
Josh Tatum (Greenville, N.C.) finished with 12 points, six rebounds, and four blocks. Harris filled the stat sheet with seven points, 10 assists, and five rebounds. Post tied a season-high with 13 steals, led by Strong and Harris with four each.
 
The Eagles are back at home on Saturday, Feb. 1 against Goldey-Beacom. Game time is set for 3 p.m.
