PREVIEW: Eagles Look For Second-Straight Victory Against Concordia Tuesday Night

Post Has Won Four Of Last Five Meetings With Clippers

WATERBURY, Conn.  – Coming off its first victory since Dec. 7, the Post University men's basketball team returns home to host Concordia on Tuesday night in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) game. The Eagles have won four of their last five games against the Clippers including an 81-70 victory on Nov. 13.
 
Last Time Out: Post 72, USciences 69 – Box Score | Recap
Down by ten points at the half, the Eagles outscored USciences 51-38 in the final frame to earn a 72-69 CACC road victory on Saturday afternoon. Senior Stephen Perry Jr. (Westhampton, N.J.) led the comeback with 16 points in the second half.
 
Senior Zach Krischer (Port Jefferson, N.Y.) hit from distance with 1:37 remaining in the game to put Post ahead 70-65. Garrett Kerr scored a fastbreak layup off an Eagles' turnover with 50 seconds left to cut the deficit to just one. Post threw away the ensuing in-bounds pass, but stopped the Devils on defense as the home team was forced to foul.
 
Senior Jerry Cummings (Queens, N.Y.) hit two free-throws with 19 ticks remaining to push the advantage to 72-69. USciences had three late chances to tie but were unable to convert. The Eagles shot 69.2% from the field and 80.0% from behind the arc in the second half.
 
Scouting the Clippers
Concordia enters Tuesday with a record of 2-12 overall and 2-6 in CACC play. The Clippers began the season 0-11 before winning two of their last three games, most recently an 81-73 victory over Felician. Concordia is led by Norman Pope who is third in the conference and 13th in the nation at 22.4 points per game. The Clippers take the most shots per game in the CACC (68.6) but are near the bottom in shooting percentage at 39.6 percent.
 
All-Time Series Against Concordia
Post is 7-4 against Concordia since 2007 and has won four of the last five meetings between the two teams. In both schools' CACC-openers on Nov. 13, the Eagles defeated the Clippers 81-70. Mike Manning led five in double-digits with 18 points.

Juggling The Lineup
Post has used seven different starting lineups this season and a total of 12 players have made at least one start. Derrick Strong has started 13 of the Eagles' 14 games, only coming off the bench in the opener against Southern New Hampshire. Travis Carbajal and Devin Willis are the only other players to start more than six times.
 
Eagles Among The Leaders
Effrin Ellison leads the CACC and is 12th in the nation with a 52.3 shooting percentage from behind the arc. Derrick Strong is second in the conference at 2.3 steals per game, which is good for 50th in the nation. The Eagles are 44th in the country in three-pointers made per game (8.7).
 
Coming Up Short
Out of Post's losses this season, six have come by just a combined 20 points. In two of the games, the Eagles had a last-second chance for victory. Against Bridgeport, Post had possession with 0:04 left in an 87-85 defeat. Last time out against LIU-Post, the Eagles had two chances in the final three seconds before falling 67-66. Post hit two late shots against Nyack to send the game into two overtimes, but came up short 106-101.
 
Honored For Defensive Prowess
Derrick Strong was named CACC Defensive Player of the week on Dec. 9. The senior had a career-high six steals in Post's victory over Wilmington. He is the second Eagle to receive the honor this season after AJ Harris on Nov. 11. In his Eagles debut against Southern New Hampshire on Nov. 9, Harris recorded seven steals, which was the highest single-game total since the 2006-07 season.
 
The Road Ahead
The Eagles are off until Wednesday, Jan. 22 when they host Felician at 8 p.m. The Golden Falcons defeated Post 80-74 on Nov. 26.
