BLOOMFIELD, N.J. – Despite a 71-55 lead with 6:55 to play in the contest, the Post University men's basketball team fell at Bloomfield in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) game on Tuesday night. The final score was 80-75. The Deacons closed the game on a 25-4 run over the last 6:33 of the game. Junior
Zach Krischer (Port Jefferson, N.Y.) scored a game-high 25 points and hit seven three-pointers.
After Bloomfield opened the game on a 14-2 run over the first 4:06 of the contest, Post (14-10, 10-7 CACC) cut the deficit to eight points on a jumper by freshman
Gediminas Juozapavicius (Kedainiai, Lithuania). He hit his shot at the 11:01 mark to make the score 20-12.
With 9:18 to play in the stanza, the Eagles used a 12-4 spurt over a span of 3:05 to pull within six, 30-24, with 6:13 remaining before intermission. Junior
Effrin Ellison (Waterbury, Conn.) kick-started the run with a three-pointer, and Juozapavicius and junior
Jerry Cummings (Queens, N.Y.) nailed field goals. The final five points of the run were netted by sophomore
Braxton Gardner (Bridgeport, Conn.) and Krischer. Gardner hit a triple and Krischer hit a jump shot.
At the intermission, Post trailed Bloomfield (12-11, 10-5 CACC) 38-31.
Cummings scored the first seven points of the second half to tie the score at 38-38 with 18:14 to play in the contest. With a 49-48 lead and 13:47 to play, the Eagles used a 22-7 run to claim a 16-point lead, 71-55, with 6:55 to go. The advantage was the largest of the game for Post. Krischer scored nine points on the run and Gardner scored the last five.
From there, the Deacons scored 25 of the final 29 points of the game to steal the victory.
For the game, Post shot 37.3 percent from the field and sank 14 triples. Individually, Cummings added 17 points and a team-high seven rebounds. Gardner matched his career-high for the second time in as many outings with 13 points on 4-for-9 shooting.
The Eagles will step away from CACC action and take on Washington Adventist on Saturday, Feb. 16. Game time is set for 7 p.m. in Takoma Park, Md.
