PREVIEW: Men’s Basketball Open CACC Play At Concordia

Eagles Are 8-2 In Conference Openers Since 2003-04

WATERBURY, Conn.  – The Post University men's basketball team opens it Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) season on Wednesday on the road against Concordia. The Eagles are 8-2 in conference openers since 2003-04.

The Post University men's basketball team fell in its season-opener on Nov. 9 at Southern New Hampshire. Seniors Jerry Cummings (Queens, N.Y.) and Zach Krischer (Port Jefferson, N.Y.) paced Post with 13 points and 11 points, respectively.
 
Krischer capped off an 8-0 Eagles' run early in the first half with a three-pointer to give Post an 8-4 lead. The Eagles extended their lead to 15-9 at the 14:02 mark of the period; it would be their largest lead of the game. Southern New Hampshire answered with a 16-5 run to take a 25-20 lead. Elijah Bonsignore scored five points during the stretch. Three-pointers by seniors Effrin Ellison (Waterbury, Conn.) and Devin Willis (Seattle, Wash.) helped Post grab a 28-27 advantage with 6:26 remaining in the half.
 
Post was never able to pull any closer than seven in the second half. After falling behind 52-40, senior Stephen Perry Jr. (Westhampton, N.J.) hit his first of three three-pointers in the second half to cut the Penmen lead to 54-47 with 12:54 remaining. Perry finished with nine points on 3-for-4 shooting from behind the arc.
 
Scouting the Clippers
Concordia comes into Wednesday at 0-2 on the young season having lost both its game in the Bentley Tip-Off Classic over the weekend. The Clippers were picked fifth in the North Division in the preseason poll. Concordia is led by Norman Pope who currently leads the CACC in scoring at 26.5 points per game. He erupted for 34 points in a 96-86 loss against Merrimack on Nov. 9.
 
All-Time Series Against Concordia
Post is 6-4 all-time against the Clippers but just 2-2 in Bronxville. Last season the Eagles went 1-1 against Concordia with each team winning on their home court. Post is 3-1 over the last two seasons.

Honored For Defensive Prowess
Junior AJ Harris (Inglewood, Calif.) was named CACC Defensive Player of the Week on Nov. 11. In his Eagles debut against Southern New Hampshire on Nov. 9, Harris recorded seven steals, which was the highest single-game total since the 2006-07 season. He was the first Post player to earn a weekly award since Stephen Perry Jr. (Westhampton, N.J.) was named Player of the Week on Nov. 27, 2012.
 
The Road Ahead
The Eagles return to Drubner for their home opener on Saturday, Nov. 16 against East Coast Conference opponent Bridgeport. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m.
