Krischer’s Scoring, Cummings’ Double-Double Highlights 79-69 Win Over Nyack

WATERBURY, Conn. – Powered by the fourth 20-plus point scoring game of the season by junior Zach Krischer (Port Jefferson, N.Y.) and the third double-double by classmate Jerry Cummings (Queens, N.Y.), the Post University men's basketball team snapped its three-game losing streak with a 79-69 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) victory over Nyack on Wednesday night at the Drubner Center. With the win the Eagles swept the regular season series with Nyack for the third straight year.
 
Krischer netted 26 points, 17 of which came in the first half. For the game he shot 9-for-18 from the field and 5-for-11 from distance. Cummings finished with 12 points and 10 rebounds. It marked his first double-double since Dec. 1. Juniors Devin Willis (Seattle, Wash.) added 16 points and Derrick Strong (St. Louis, Mo.) added 13 points off the bench and he went 7-for-8 at the free throw line. Senior Jake Wilcox (Kent, Wash.) led all players with a game-high six assists. He added two steals.
 
Post (10-6, 6-2 CACC) netted the first six points of the game on a layup by Wilcox and consecutive field goals by Krischer. After the Eagles built a 9-4 lead with 16:36 to play in the period, they used a 20-5 run over a span of 6:30 to claim a 29-9 advantage with 9:49 to play before halftime. Krischer and Willis alternated the first four baskets of the run. Krischer added five straight points later in the spurt. Juniors Stephen Perry (Westampton, N.J.) and Effrin Ellison (Waterbury, Conn.) capped the run with a jumper and triple. Ellison made his first career start in the contest.
 
Nyack (2-12, 0-7 CACC) responded with a 14-1 swell of its own to pull within seven, 30-23, with 5:12 to play in the stanza. Post scored the final six points of the half on three-pointers by Cummings and Perry. The Eagles held the Warriors to 0-for-5 from the field over the final 2:31 of the stanza. Post held a 40-30 advantage at the intermission.
 
With 11:46 remaining in the second half, Nyack staged a 9-0 run over a span of 3:55 to tie the game at 51-51. It marked the only time of the night that the score was tied. From there the Eagles used a 9-3 run over a span of 1:16 to take a 63-56 lead with 5:20 to play in the game. Strong turned in a layup, while Krischer added a triple to highlight the spurt.
 
Over the final 1:43 of the contest, the Eagles went 9-for-10 at the foul line to secure the victory.
 
For the game, Post shot 45.3 percent (24-for-53) from the field and 42.3 percent (11-for-26) from beyond the three-point arc. The home team forced 19 Nyack turnovers which led to 24 Post points. Strong netted 13 of the Eagles' 18 bench points.
 
The Eagles have won the last six head-to-head meetings against Nyack.
 
Post will return to action on Saturday, Jan. 12, when it travels to Caldwell for a CACC contest. Game time is set for 3 p.m. The Eagles will eye a season sweep of the Cougars after they earned a 72-55 victory at the Drubner Center on Dec. 4.
