Krischer’s Career-High Leads Post To 75-67 Win At Wilmington

Eagles Keep Pace With Dominican; Remain Tied For Second Place In CACC North

NEW CASTLE, Del. – Powered by a career-high 26 points from sophomore Zach Krischer (Port Jefferson, N.Y.), the Post University men's basketball team earned its fourth win in the last five games, with a 75-67 road victory over the Wilmington Wildcats in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest on Saturday afternoon. The contest was played at the Pratt Center.
 
Krischer shot 7-for-9 from three-point range and 9-for-12 from the field overall. Juniors Jerry Cummings (La Plata, Md.) and Jake Wilcox (Kent, Wash.) added 16 and 11 points, respectively. Cummings totaled five rebounds, three steals and two assists, while Wilcox hit all three of his field goal attempts, notched six assists and five rebounds. Classmate Sarunas Jackson (Corona, Calif.) finished one point shy of his second straight double-double. Jackson had nine points and a game-high 10 rebounds.
 
Wilmington (10-15, 6-10 CACC) led 14-11 with 13:01 to play in the opening half, when the Eagles began a 10-2 run over a span of 4:17 to claim a five-point advantage, 21-16 with 8:42 to play. Jackson kick-started the run with a layup at the 12:59 mark. Cummings and Krischer scored the next five points on back-to-back possessions, while senior James Lee (Montclair, N.J.) capped the run with a three-point play.
 
A Cummings layup with 2:56 remaining in the first half gave Post its largest lead of the stanza, a six-point margin, 28-22. However, Wilmington's Corye Payton and Herbert Dennis scored nine of the final 15 points of the first half on three triples. Krischer hit a three-pointer with 50 seconds remaining to give Post a 33-31 lead at halftime.
 
Wilmington did not go down quietly in the second half. The Wildcats cut the Post (12-14, 10-7 CACC) lead to one point on five instances in the. Dennis made a layup with 6:01 to play in the game to make the score 57-56 in favor of the Eagles. However, Krischer and Cummings scored the next five points to grow the Post lead back to six, 62-56, with 5:07 left.
 
In the final 5:07, Post went 8-for-13 at the free throw line to secure the victory.
 
For the game, the Eagles shot 49.1 percent (28-for-57) from the field, and Krischer hit all seven of Post's three-pointers in the contest. The Eagles outrebounded the Wildcats 34-32, keyed by a 10-8 advantage on the offensive glass.  
 
With the win, the Eagles kept pace with Dominican in the race for second place in the CACC North Division. Dominican posted a 72-61 win over Holy Family.
 
Post, which has clinched a CACC Tournament berth, will conclude the regular season on Tuesday, Feb. 21, at 8 p.m., when the Eagles host Nyack in a conference contest. The matchup will be held at the Drubner Center.
