PREVIEW: Eagles Welcome Division-Leading Bloomfield To Drubner Thursday Night

Post Seeks 10th CACC Win Of Season At Home Against Deacons

WATERBURY, Conn. – The Post University men's basketball team will put its season-long three-game win streak on the line Thursday night when the Eagles welcome the Bloomfield Deacons to the Drubner Center for a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest. Bloomfield has won its last five outings, and 16 of its last 17 matchups.

Bloomfield jumped out to a seven-point lead by halftime, and Post never got closer than four points in the second half as the Deacons dropped the Eagles 80-69 at Bloomfield Gym on Dec. 8. Sophomore Zach Krischer (Port Jefferson, N.Y.) led Post with 18 points on 7-for-14 shooting. He shot 4-for-7 from distance.
 
Krischer was joined in double figures by senior Josh Lopez (Anchorage, Alaska) and junior Mike Stepovich (Fairbanks, Alaska) who chipped in 14 and 12 points, respectively.

LAST TIME OUT: POST 79, CHESTNUT HILL 75
Behind a season-high 21 points from sophomore guard Zach Krischer (Port Jefferson, N.Y.), the Post University men's basketball earned its third straight win, after a 79-75 triumph over Chestnut Hill in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) game Saturday afternoon at the Drubner Center.
 
Krischer scored 14 of his game-high 21 points in the first half, and he shot 4-for-5 from distance in the stanza. He finished the game 7-for-9 from the field. Juniors Jerry Cummings (La Plata, Md.) and Sarunas Jackson (Corona, Calif.) chipped in 14 and 13 points, respectively.
 
The Eagles went on a 21-7 run to close the first half over the final 6:59 of the period. Senior Geraldo Fernandez (Monticello, N.Y.) scored the first six points of the spurt. His jumper with 6:18 to play in the first half gave Post a 1-point advantage, 27-26. Krischer added 11 points during the spurt, including a triple as time expired in the stanza. The Eagles held a 10-point advantage, 43-33, at the break.
 
 
SERIES HISTORY:
Post has tallied a 6-9 record against Bloomfield since the 2006-07 season. During the span, at least one of the teams has eclipsed 80 points in 14 of the 15 contests, while both teams have gone over 80 points in the same game seven times. However, the Eagles are 5-2 at the Drubner Center against the Deacons. The last time the teams met in Waterbury, Post turned in an 82-72 win on Feb. 15, 2011.
 
SHARP SHOOTER:
Over the last six games, sophomore Zach Krischer has been dialed in from long distance. The Port Jefferson, N.Y., native has shot 50 percent (17-for-34) from three-point range including a season-high five triples against Goldey-Beacom on Jan. 28. For the season, Krischer is shooting 48.2 (54-for-112) percent from three-point range and 47.7 percent (95-for-199) from the field. In fact, he is shooting better from three-point range, than he is from two-point range 47.1 percent (41-for-87).
 
A LOOK AT THE STANDINGS:
With two weeks remaining in the regular season, Bloomfield has clinched the top seed in the CACC North Division with its conference record of 13-2. Post, which is 9-6 in the CACC, is a game ahead of Dominican, for second place. Concordia is in fourth place in the division with an 8-8 conference mark. Additionally, the Caldwell Cougars are still in the hunt with an 8-9 mark in the CACC.
 
A RARE FEAT ACCOMPLISHED AT POST:
In the Jan. 21, loss at Holy Family, Jake Wilcox recorded 13 assists and no turnovers. His assist total is tied for ninth in a single game in Division II this season. Wilcox became one of three players in Division II this season with 13 assists and no turnovers. The others were Josh Magette of Alabama-Huntsville and Cameron Joyce of Northwood (Mich.).
 
TIGHT GAMES ARE TELLING:
In games decided by three points or less this season, Post boasts a 5-1 record. The Eagles have earned one-point victories over Bridgeport (Dec. 19 - 79-78), Queens (Jan. 2 - 71-70) and Nyack (Jan. 12), a two-point victory came against Concordia (Feb. 7), while a three-point margin decided the contest at Felician (Jan. 18). The lone loss came against Dominican in double overtime (Jan. 5 - 74-73).
 
SCOUTING THE DEACONS:
Bloomfield has clinched the CACC North Division and will be the top seed out of the division for the CACC Tournament. The Deacons have won their last five games and 16 of their last 17 outings. Matt Wafula leads the team in scoring with 15.7 points per game, while Terry Hicks adds 13.7. Wafula is ranked 10th in the CACC in scoring. Ahmad Harris leads the CACC in assists per game (7.0) and ranks seventh in Division II in the same category. Harris is 10th in assist-to-turnover ratio with a mark of 2.85. Additionally, Kevin Udo leads the CACC in field goal percentage. Udo shoots at a clip of 59.4 percent from the floor.
 
ON THE HORIZON:
Post will play its final road game of the regular season on Saturday, Feb. 18, when it travels to Wilmington for a CACC contest. Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m.
