Post Nets Season-High In Points, Runs Past Felician 94-70

Juniors Travis Carbajal And Derrick Strong Net Career-Highs, Krischer Leads Eagles With 21 Points

WATERBURY, Conn. – Powered by a season-high 94 points and two career-highs from individuals, the Post University men's basketball team returned to its winning ways on Wednesday night with a 94-70 victory over Felician in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest at the Drubner Center. Junior Zach Krischer (Port Jefferson, N.Y.) turned in a season-high 21 points to lead all scorers. It was the third time this season the Eagles led from start to finish.
 
Krischer netted his second 20-plus point scoring performance of the season as he scored 20 in the season-opener against Molloy. He shot 8-for-10 from the field and 5-for-7 from distance. Juniors Travis Carbajal (Oklahoma City, Okla.) and Derrick Strong (St. Louis, Mo.) scored career-highs of 18 and 17 points, respectively. Carbajal added six rebounds and Strong contributed six assists and two steals. Senior Jake Wilcox (Kent, Wash.), who is ranked ninth in the country in assists per game, notched a game-high seven assists.
 
With the Eagles ahead 10-6, they went on an 8-0 run over a span of 1:41 to claim a 12-point advantage, 18-6, with 12:57 to play in the first half. Junior Jonathan Annan (Staten Island, N.Y.) opened the spurt with a jumper and classmate Effrin Ellison (Waterbury, Conn.) capped it with a triple. Ellison finished the game with seven points.
 
After Felician (4-8, 2-4 CACC) cut the deficit to seven points, 23-16, with 8:08 to play in the stanza, the Eagles used a 12-3 spurt of their own to swell their lead to 15 points, 39-24, with 3:16 to go. Junior Jerry Cummings (Queens, N.Y.) netted the first four points of the run, while Krischer and Strong closed the spurt with three-pointers. Cummings, one of four Eagles in doubles figures, finished with 13 points and a team-high seven rebounds.
 
Carbajal scored Post's final four points of the opening half. With 1:10 remaining, Carbajal sank a jump shot to grow the margin to 17 points. The 45-28 advantage was the largest of the period. Post (9-3, 5-1 CACC) led 45-30 at the break.
 
Felician pulled to within nine, 72-61, with 6:48 to go in the contest; however, Post pulled away with a 20-6 spurt over a span of 5:26 to grow its advantage 92-67 with 1:00 remaining. The 25-point margin was the largest of the night.
 
Krischer jumpstarted the run with a three-pointer, one of five that he drained on the night. Strong added eight points during the spurt, while Cummings and senior Sarunas Jackson (Inland Empire, Calif.) provided dunks for the Eagles.
 
Post shot 34-for-61 from the field to register a percentage of 55.7. The Eagles shot 17-for-22 from the free throw line, including a perfect 8-for-8 night by Strong. Post caused 15 Felician turnovers which led to 22 points for the Eagles. The reserves held a 46-21 advantage in favor of Post.
 
The win marked the sixth straight in the head-to-head series with Felician.
 
The Eagles will return to action on Sunday, Dec. 30, when they host American International in a non-conference contest at the Drubner Center. Game time is slated for 3 p.m.
