Post Handles Queens 83-67 For Fifth Straight Win

WATERBURY, Conn. – Behind the strength of a 7-0 run over a span of 46 seconds in the second half, the Post University men's basketball team pulled away from visiting Queens College in an 83-67 non-conference victory for the Eagles. For the third time this season, junior Jerry Cummings (Queens, N.Y.) led Post in scoring. He netted 17 points and classmates Zach Krischer (Port Jefferson, N.Y.) and Stephen Perry (Westhampton, N.J.) chipped in 16 and 15 points, respectively.
 
Cummings shot 6-for-11 from the field and 5-for-8 at the foul line. He added four rebounds, three steals, two blocks and two assists. Krischer shot 4-for-7 from distance and 6-for-10 from the field and Perry went 5-for-7 from the floor and 4-for-6 from three-point range.
 
During the 7-0 spurt that put Post (5-1) ahead by double digits for the final 10:04 of the contest, junior Jonathan Annan (Staten Island, N.Y.)  hit a jumper, and Krischer hit a three-pointer to give the Eagles a 61-51 lead with 10:04 to go. Junior Derrick Strong (St. Louis, Mo.) capped the run with a layup at the 9:38 mark. Prior to the run, Queens (0-5) pulled to within five, 56-51, on a Patrick Modzelewski triple.
 
The Knights scored the first six points of the contest and led 8-3 with 16:58 to play in the opening half. However, the Eagles went on a 9-0 run over a span of 1:12 to claim a 9-8 advantage, their first of the day. Krischer hit a pair of triples to cap the run.
 
The Post lead swelled to 10 points after a Perry three-pointer with 8:48 to play in the first half. The Eagles held a 28-18 advantage at the time.
 
Krischer capped a 13-4 run in the final minutes of the first half. His layup with 1:17 to play in the stanza gave Post a 43-27 lead. The 16-point margin matched the largest of the contest.
 
For the game, Post shot a season-high 51.7 percent from the field and 52.4 percent from beyond the three-point line. Over the last four games, the Eagles have shot better than 43 percent from distance. Post amassed a season-high 17 steals and senior Jake Wilcox (Kent, Wash.) led the squad with five.
 
Post will take to the road and travel to the University of Bridgeport on Wednesday, Nov. 28. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
