Post Runs Past Nyack 86-48 In CACC Opener

Men’s Basketball Opens Game On 21-3 Run And Never Looks Back

NYACK, N.Y. – The Post University men's basketball team began its Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) opener at Nyack on a 21-3 run and never looked back as the Eagles won their second straight game by a score of 86-48 on Tuesday night a Bowman Gymnasium. Junior Jerry Cummings (Queens, N.Y.) paced the offense with a game-high 20 points and junior Travis Carbajal (Oklahoma City, Okla.) led all players with 10 rebounds.
 
For the game, Post (2-1, 1-0 CACC) shot 50 percent from the field and 64 percent (16-for-25) from three-point range. Cummings mad five triples in the contest to lead nine Eagles who hit at shot from long distance. Individually, senior Jake Wilcox (Kent, Wash.) and junior Effrin Ellison (Waterbury, Conn.) netted 10 points apiece. Wilcox added six assists and three steals.
 
During the 21-3 run that opened the game, the Eagles scored the first seven points of the matchup on a jumper by senior Sarunas Jackson (Inland Empire, Calif.), a triple by Cummings and a pair of free throws from Wilcox. Carbajal capped the run with a two-handed slam at the 11:27 mark of the opening stanza.
 
Nyack (0-3, 0-1 CACC) pulled to within 11 points, 35-24, after it scored six straight points. Four of the tallies came from the foul line. Carbajal used a put back in the final seconds of the first half to give Post a 37-24 lead at halftime. In the opening half, the Eagles held the Warriors to a field goal percentage of 21.8 as they only hit six shots from the floor in the period.
 
The Eagles scored the first 10 points after halftime over a span of 3:54 keyed by three long distance shots. Cummings netted eight points behind the strength of two triples and a jumper. Wilcox added a three-pointer. After the spurt came to a close with 16:06 left in regulation, Post held a 48-24 advantage.
 
With 2:01 remaining in the contest, freshman Robbie Dionisio (Shirley, N.Y.) gave Post its largest lead, an 80-40 edge, after he scored on a layup off a feed from junior Ryan Rock (Point Hope, Alaska).
 
In the second half, Post went 10-for-13 from long range and held a 44-39 edge on the glass. The Eagles assisted on 25 of 32 field goals, and it limited Nyack to just three assists and 23 giveaways. Post scored 29 points off Nyack's miscues. The Eagles' reserves outscored their counterparts 41-15.
 
Post will eye its third straight win when it travels to LIU Post for a non-conference game on Saturday, Nov. 17. Game time is set for 3 p.m. at the Pratt Recreation Center.
