PREVIEW: Post Returns To Road For Mid-Week Matchup At Dominican

Eagles Take On Chargers In Orangeburg, N.Y., Wednesday Night

ORANGEBURG, N.Y. – The Post University men's basketball team returns to the road on Wednesday, Feb. 1, and will travel to Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center for a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) game against the Dominican Chargers. The Eagles have won four of their last six games and two out of the last three.
 
LAST TIME OUT: GOLDEY-BEACOM 67, POST 62
Sophomore guard Zach Krischer (Port Jefferson, N.Y.) scored a team-high 17 points and shot 5-for-9 from three-point range. However, the Lightning opened the second half on a 20-5 run over 7:14 to start the stanza. The spurt erased an 11-point halftime lead for Post (8-12, 6-5 CACC). Following the run, Goldey-Beacom held a 41-37 advantage with 12:46 to play.
 
With Goldey-Beacom leading 12-10 with 12:25 to play in the first half, Lopez sparked a 15-4 Post run over the next 6:28 to give the Eagles a 25-16 advantage. During the run, Post got triples from Lopez, sophomore Krischer and junior Mike Stepovich (Fairbanks, Alaska). A dunk by Lee and a put-back by Sanford also keyed the spurt.
 
Krischer hit a triple in the final seconds of the first half to give the Eagles a 32-21 advantage at intermission.
 
HITTING STRIDE:
Since Jan. 12, Post has won four out of six contests and is averaging 75 points per game. During the stretch, the Eagles defeated Nyack (75-74), Felician (75-72), Concorida (77-60) and Caldwell (91-64). Post has been led by a trio in double figures: Josh Lopez (Anchorage, Alaska), James Lee (Montclair, N.J.) and Krischer, who have averaged 14.8, 12.5 and 10.7 points per game respectively. For the season, the team averages 68.7 points per game.
 
A RARE FEAT ACCOMPLISHED AT POST:
In the Jan. 21, loss at Holy Family, Jake Wilcox recorded 13 assists and no turnovers. His assist total is tied for sixth in a single game in Division II this season. Wilcox became one of three players in Division II this season with 13 assists and no turnovers. The others were Josh Magette of Alabama-Huntsville and Cameron Joyce of Northwood (Mich.).
 
SERIES HISTORY:
Post has amassed a 10-4 record against Dominican since the 2005-06 season. In addition, the Eagles have won three straight contests in Orangeburg against the Chargers, dating back to the 2008-09 campaign. Most recently, Post fell to Dominican 74-73 in double overtime on Jan. 5. The Eagles had three chances to win the game in the final seven seconds of the second overtime, but could not capitalize. Jerry Cummings led Post with 15 points, while Cory Quimby scored a game-high 19 for the Chargers.
 
TIGHT GAMES ARE TELLING:
In games decided by three points or less this season, Post boasts a 4-1 record. The Eagles have earned one-point victories over Bridgeport (Dec. 19 - 79-78), Queens (Jan. 2 - 71-70) and Nyack (Jan. 12), while a three-point margin decided the contest at Felician (Jan. 18). The lone loss came against Dominican in double overtime (Jan. 5 - 74-73).
 
SCOUTING THE CHARGERS:
Under the direction of head coach Joe Clinton, who won his 300th career game on Jan. 28, Dominican enters Wednesday's tilt with a record of 11-7 overall and 4-6 in CACC play. The Chargers are in fifth place in the CACC North Division. Riding a two-game win streak, Dominican is led by Cory Quimby who averages 19.2 points and 11.2 rebounds per game. Quimby has led the Chargers in scoring 11 times in 18 games.
 
ON THE HORIZON:
The Eagles will return to the Drubner Center on Tuesday, Feb. 7, when they host Concordia (N.Y.) at 8 p.m.
