WATERBURY, Conn. – The Post University men's basketball team dropped a 67-62 decision to Goldey-Beacom in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest on Saturday afternoon at the Drubner Center. Sophomore guard
Zach Krischer (Port Jefferson, N.Y.) scored a team-high 17 points and shot 5-for-9 from three-point range.
Over the last two games, Krischer has shot 9-for-16 from distance and made a season-high five triples against the Lightning. He has led the Eagles in scoring in each of the last two games. Seniors
Josh Lopez (Anchorage, Alaska) and
James Lee (Montclair, N.J.) added 13 and 11 points, respectively.
The Lightning opened the second half on a 20-5 run over 7:14 to start the stanza. The spurt erased an 11-point halftime lead for Post (8-12, 6-5 CACC). Following the run, Goldey-Beacom held a 41-37 advantage with 12:46 to play.
However, the Eagles scored the next four points to even the score at 41-41. Lee grabbed an offensive rebound and finished with a tip-in, while
Dantay Sanford (Compton, Calif.) hit a pair of free throws.
Goldey-Beacom used a 13-4 run over a span of 3:43 to gain a seven-point advantage, 60-53, and keep the Eagles at bay.
With Goldey-Beacom (11-7, 8-2 CACC) leading 12-10 with 12:25 to play in the first half, Lopez sparked a 15-4 Post run over the next 6:28 to give the Eagles a 25-16 advantage. During the run, Post got triples from Lopez, sophomore Krischer and junior
Mike Stepovich (Fairbanks, Alaska). A dunk by Lee and a put-back by Sanford also keyed the spurt.
Krischer hit a triple in the final seconds of the first half to give the Eagles a 32-21 advantage at intermission.
In the opening half, Krischer helped the Eagles' bench score 16 points. Additionally, Post used defensive pressure to force 12 turnovers and score 15 points off the Lightning miscues.
For the game, the Lightning shot 45.8 percent from the field, while the Eagles were held to a shooting percentage of 30.9. Post held a 29-14 advantage in points off turnovers and a 28-9 margin in bench scoring. Goldey-Beacom scored 32 points in the pain and Marcus Porter led four Lightning players with 19 points.
The Eagles will return to the road and take on the Dominican Chargers in Orangeburg, N.Y., on Wed., Feb. 1. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m.
