PREVIEW: Eagles Wrap Up Homestand In CACC Showdown Of Second Place Teams

Post To Host Goldey-Beacom On Saturday At 3 P.M.

WATERBURY, Conn. – Coming off a complete team win over Caldwell on Thursday night at the Drubner Center, the Post University men's basketball team returns to the hardwood on Saturday afternoon against Goldey-Beacom. Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m. Five players eclipsed double figures in the 91-64 win over the Cougars, led by Zach Krischer's (Port Jefferson, N.Y.)18 points off the bench on 4-for-7 shooting from distance.
 
LAST TIME OUT: POST 91, CALDWELL 64
The Eagles shot 12-for-25 from three-point range to cruise to a 91-64 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) victory over Caldwell on Thursday night at the Drubner Center.
 
Post (8-11, 6-4 CACC) closed the game on a 12-2 run over the final 5:24. The spurt included an alley-oop from Josh Lopez (Anchorage, Alaska) to Sarunas Jackson (Corona, Calif.), and a three-pointer from Jackson as well. The run capped with a Mark Spellman (Waterbury, Conn.) layup with 20 seconds to play to arrive at the final score.
 
As a team, the Eagles turned in season-highs in points, 91, field goal percentage, 56.9 percent, and three-pointers made with 12. Individually, Krischer shot 4-for-7 from distance and 7-for-13 from the field. He added two assists and two steals. Junior Sarunas Jackson (Corona, Calif.), seniors Josh Lopez (Anchorage, Alaska) and James Lee (Montclair, N.J.) and junior Dantay Sanford (Compton, Calif.) added 15, 12, 11 and 11 points, respectively.
 
A RARE FEAT ACCOMPLISHED AT POST:
In the Jan. 21, loss at Holy Family, Jake Wilcox recorded 13 assists and no turnovers. His assist total is tied for sixth in a single game in Division II this season. Wilcox became one of three players in Division II this season with 13 assists and no turnovers. The others were Josh Magette of Alabama-Huntsville and Cameron Joyce of Northwood (Mich.).
 
CACC PLAYER OF THE WEEK – JAN. 23, 2012
Senior guard Josh Lopez of the Post University men's basketball team was named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Player of the Week on Monday afternoon. Lopez is the first member of the men's basketball team to be lauded by the conference this season.
 
Lopez led the Eagles in scoring in both games last week, with 20 points at Felician in a 75-72 victory, and 21 points at Holy Family on Saturday. Against the Golden Falcons, Lopez hit a pair of free throws with four seconds remaining to push the Post lead to three points. For the game, he shot 50 percent from the field. At Holy Family on Saturday, Lopez shot 5-for-8 from three-point range, and 6-for-11 from the field, to go along with eight rebounds, three assists and a steal.
 
SERIES HISTORY:
Over the last nine meetings, dating back to the 2005-06 campaign, Post boasts a 6-3 record over Goldey-Beacom. Last season, the Lightning won both meetings including a 74-63 decision in the CACC semifinals. However, the Eagles are 4-0  over the last six seasons when the teams meet at the Drubner Center.
 
TIGHT GAMES ARE TELLING:
In games decided by three points or less this season, Post boasts a 4-1 record. The Eagles have earned one-point victories over Bridgeport (Dec. 19 - 79-78), Queens (Jan. 2 - 71-70) and Nyack (Jan. 12), while a three-point margin decided the contest at Felician (Jan. 18). The lone loss came against Dominican in double overtime (Jan. 5 - 74-73).
 
SCOUTING THE LIGHTNING:
Riding a three-game winning streak, Goldey-Beacom enters Saturday's tilt with an overall record of 10-7 and 7-2 in the CACC. In their last game, the Lightning defeated Philadelphia 65-54 on Thursday night on the road to hand the Rams their first conference loss of the season. Goldey-Beacom was led by Rich Fleming who scored a game-high 24 points, while the defense limited Philadelphia to 30 percent shooting from the field.  
 
ON THE HORIZON:
Post will travel to Dominican for a CACC game against the Chargers on Feb. 1. Tip-off is slated for 8 p.m.
