Post Shoots Its Way Past Caldwell, 91-64

Eagles Shoot 48 Percent From Three-Point Range; Hit Season-High 12 Triples In Contest

WATERBURY, Conn. –
The Post University men's basketball team shot 12-for-25 from three-point range to cruise to a 91-64 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) victory over Caldwell on Thursday night at the Drubner Center. Five players reached double figures for the Eagles, led by sophomore Zach Krischer (Port Jefferson, N.Y.) who poured in 18 points off the bench.
 
As a team, the Eagles turned in season-highs in points, 91, field goal percentage, 56.9 percent, and three-pointers made with 12. Individually, Krischer shot 4-for-7 from distance and 7-for-13 from the field. He added two assists and two steals. Junior Sarunas Jackson (Corona, Calif.), seniors Josh Lopez (Anchorage, Alaska) and James Lee (Montclair, N.J.) and junior Dantay Sanford (Compton, Calif.) added 15, 12, 11 and 11 points, respectively.
 
Post (8-11, 6-4 CACC) closed the game on a 12-2 run over the final 5:24. The spurt included an alley-oop from Lopez to Jackson, and a three-pointer from Jackson as well. The run capped with a Mark Spellman (Waterbury, Conn.) layup with 20 seconds to play to arrive at the final score.
 
Over the final 20:14, Caldwell could not get its deficit to fewer than 10 points. The Cougars got the deficit to 10 points, 43-33, with 18:55 to go in the game on an Anthony Gill layup.
 
After a Jerry Cummings (La Plata, Md.) triple tied the score at six with 15:51 to play in the opening half, Post scored five straight points on a three-pointer by Lopez and a jumper by Jackson. The score was 11-6 with 14:08 remaining in the first half.
 
The Eagles grew their lead to 10 points, 25-15, with 8:22 to play in the first half on a triple by junior Mike Stepovich (Fairbanks, Alaska) and a jumper by Jackson. Jackson finished the first half 2-for-2 from the field.
 
A baseline jumper by Krischer surged the Post lead to 11 points with 14 seconds remaining in the opening frame. Krischer's basket was the last one of the half and made the score 41-30 at the intermission. In the period, Post hit five threes and shot 45.5 percent from beyond the arc.
 
Caldwell (10-9, 5-7 CACC) was paced by Peter Diffley and Nikola Otovic, who scored nine points apiece. The Cougars shot 44 percent from the field in the game.
 
The Eagles bench scored 48 points in the game, while the team notched 28 points on 20 Caldwell turnovers. Post totaled 12 steals in the game.
 
Post wraps up a brief two-game homestand on Saturday, Jan. 28 when it hosts Goldey-Beacom in a CACC inter-divisional contest. Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m., at the Drubner Center.
