Eagles Win Streak Clipped By Tigers In 78-70 Defeat

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Post University men's basketball team suffered a 78-70 loss at Holy Family on Saturday afternoon in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) game at the Campus Center. Junior guard Jake Wilcox (Kent, Wash.) notched his first double-double of the season with 10 points and 13 assists. He did not commit a turnover in the game.
 
For the eighth time this season, the Eagles were led by senior guard Josh Lopez (Anchorage, Alaska), who scored 21 points. Lopez shot 5-for-8 from three-point range and 6-for-11 from the field overall. He added eight rebounds, three assists and a steal. Classmate Reginald Holding Jr. (Newark, N.J.) also contributed 10 points.
 
Over a span of 2:46 to close the first half and open the second half, Holy Family used a 13-0 run to claim an advantage Post could not overcome. In the final 96 seconds of the first half, the Tigers scored eight consecutive points to take a 41-32 halftime lead. Eric Fleming hit a pair of three-pointers to close the first half.
 
The Holy Family lead grew as large as 14 points, 46-32, with 18:50 remaining in the second half on an Alberto Munoz layup.
 
Post (6-11, 4-4 CACC) scored 15 of the game's first 19 points to jump out to a 15-4 advantage in the first 4:53 of the contest. During the stretch, Lopez nailed two triples and Wilcox added one of his own. Additionally, senior James Lee (Montclair, N.J.) added a pair of two-point field goals.
 
The Tigers claimed their first advantage of the game during a 9-0 run, which concluded with 8:46 to play in the opening stanza. Baskets by Munoz, Khiry Hankins and Rickie Crews gave Holy Family (9-8, 5-4 CACC) a 26-20 lead.
 
Three straight Eagles' baskets allowed the visitors to reclaim the lead, 30-28, at the 3:28 mark of the opening period. Holding Jr. scored the first four points, while Wilcox concluded the spurt with a layup.
 
With 6:18 remaining in the game, the Eagles used a 10-1 run over a span of 1:34 to cut the Tigers' lead to as little as five points. Lopez scored five points during the run, behind the strength of a triple and a free throw, while juniors Dantay Sanford (Compton, Calif.) and Sarunas Jackson (Corona, Calif.) scored a basket apiece. However, Holy Family pushed its lead back to as many as 13 points with 1:11 to go to put the game out of reach.
 
The Tigers shot 47 percent from the field, while the Eagles shot at a clip of 38.2 percent. The Post reserves outscored their counterparts from Holy Family 26-6. Holding Jr. was the top reserve for the Eagles in the game with 10 points and sophomore Zach Krischer (Port Jefferson, N.Y.) added eight points. Holy Family was led by a game-high 24 points from Munoz. He shot 8-for-12 from the field and 4-for-5 from distance.
 
The Eagles will wrap up their four-game road trip at Concordia (N.Y.) on Tuesday, Jan. 24, in a CACC tilt. Tipoff is slated for 8 p.m.
