Krischer Clutch Again As Eagles Take Down Queens

DOMINICAN, N.Y. (January 2, 2012) Zach Krischer made a three-pointer with 0:02 remaining to give Post University a thrilling 71-70 victory over Queens College in the James Clancy Memorial Tournament. The Eagles have won three of their last four and now stand at 4-7 overall and 2-1 in CACC play.

The Eagles started off slow and fell behind 9-4 at 17:30. Jake Wilcox made two free throws to tie the game 12-12 with 14:44 remaining and Post would pull ahead minutes later on a Saurnas Jackson layup. They would extend the lead to four at 18-14 before Queens took the lead again. The teams would go back and forth for the rest of the half and were tied at 37-37 at the break.

Reggie Holding scored the first six points for the Eagles to start the second half as they went out to a 47-39 lead, just four minutes into the period. The Knights battled back as Jeremiah Mordi hit from long distance to tie the game at 52-52 with 11:42 remaining. They would then go on to open up a 65-59 lead with just over five minutes left.

Post would come back to and tie it at 68-68 with under a minute left. A Wilcox foul at 0:23 led to two Kahlil McDonald free throws as Queens took a 70-68 lead. Post would get the ball back but Jerry Cummings would turn it back over to the Knights. The Eagles fouled to stop the clock and Mordi missed the front end of the one and one and Wilcox grabbed the rebound with 0:03 left.

Coach Sokaitis called a timeout to draw up the final play. Josh Lopez kicked it out to Krischer who nailed the three to give the Eagles a 71-70 lead. Queens had one last chance but McDonald could not hit the shot as time expired.

Krischer was the leading scorer for Post off the bench, finishing with 16 points. Reggie Holding played well with 12 points to go along with six rebounds.

The Eagles will be back in action tomorrow night for their second game in the Clancy Memorial Tournament against Dowling.
