Murray Named Men's Basketball Assistant Coach

WATERBURY, Conn.-Post University men's basketball Head Coach Mike Donnelly announced that Luke Murray has been named assistant coach. Murray comes to Post after spending the 2007-08 season as the director of basketball operations at Quinnipiac University.

"We are very fortunate to add Luke Murray to our coaching staff," Donnelly said. "I am very impressed with his commitment, work ethic and his desire to excel in the coaching profession. He is a bright young coach who will be a terrific asset to our basketball program."

Murray replaces former Assistant Coach JR Fredette, who was recently named director of basketball operations at Florida Atlantic University.

As a member of Head Coach Tom Moore's staff at Quinnipiac, Murray was responsible for film exchange, team travel, and on-campus recruiting, for the Northeast Conference member school. The Bobcats finished the season 15-15 overall and finished fourth in the conference with an 11-7 record.

Prior to joining the Bobcats coaching staff, and while attending Fairfield University full-time, Murray was actively involved in coaching and administration for several elite level AAU programs in the tri-state area.

In the summer of 2006 and 2007, he was head coach of the New England Playaz 16-under program and assistant coach for the New England Playaz 17-under program. He coached several players ranked among the best in the nation, and several players who went on to play at the Division I level, including Rakim Sanders of Boston College.

From 2005-06, the St. Luke's of New Canaan grad, was an assistant coach at his alma mater, helping the program to its first NEPAC Championship.

In addition to his tenure at St. Luke's, Murray was also an assistant coach for the famed New York Gauchos AAU program. He was an assistant for the 16-under team that featured several Division I players including Kemba Walker (UConn), Darryl Bryant (West Virgina), and Jordan Theodore (Seton Hall).

From 2004-05, he was an assistant coach for the Playaz team that lost in the semifinals of the Adidas Super 64 tournament in Las Vegas, which is widely considered one of the toughest in the country.

Murray began his coaching career as an assistant for the Fairfield County Stars AAU program during the 2003-04 season. He helped coach several Division I and II calabier players with the Stars, including Mike Trimboli, who was a member of the freshman All-America Team for the University of Vermont.

He was a two-sport athlete at St. Luke's in basketball and football, earning all-conference honors twice on the gridiron.

Murray graduated from Fairfield in 2007 with a bachelor's in sociology, and currently resides in Norwalk, Conn.
