MIDDLEBURY, Conn. – Just a day after playing Jefferson University on the road, Post University Men's Tennis was at home for the first time since March 20th against Adelphi University at the Edgewood Tennis & Bath Club in Middlebury, Connecticut for a rematch with the Rams. While the Eagles would steal away a point in the #6 Singles, they would be unable to steal the match, falling 6-1 to Jefferson on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Like the other day, the Eagles would take one of the three doubles matches as graduate student
Gustavo Kerber and junior
Dante Despontin pulled off a 7-6 tiebreaker win with a 7-5 win against junior Mario Antonio and sophomore Johary Rabetrano in the #2 Doubles. However, the Rams would take the #1 and #3 Doubles convincingly with a 6-1 win for junior Enrique Soto Ballester and senior Hannibal Borg over seniors
Anton Andersson and
Niklas Langenfeld. This was also followed by sophomores Jules Thibault and Antonio Mateos Melenchon who beat sophomores
Tobias Strauss and
Josh Cronje, 6-4, securing the doubles point for Jefferson.
In the singles, Jefferson would take five of the six matches starting with a 6-3 and 6-4 sweep by Thibault over Kerber in the #3 Singles followed by Soto Ballester defeating Cronje in the #4 Singles with identical scores of 6-1 in the affair. In the #2 Singles, Antonio dispelled Despontin with a 6-3 finish in set one and then a 6-4 win in set two.
After Mateos Melenchon won set one, 7-5, over Langenfeld in the #5 Singles he would make quick work in set two with a 6-2 win over him to give Jefferson five team points on the day. The Rams would snag one more in the #1 Singles which went three sets after Andersson won the first set, 7-5, and then dropped set two, 6-3. In the final set of the match, Borg would defeat Andersson in the 10-point tiebreaker, 10-5.
The lone win of the day for Post came from junior
Ivan Kolchanov, who won his second singles match in the last three with a straight set win, 6-4 and 6-2, over sophomore Ayan Mehra to salvage a single point for the Eagles who dropped their eighth straight match, 6-1, to the Rams.
BY THE NUMBERS
- With his win in the #2 Doubles, Dante Despontin improves to 6-2 in doubles matches this season which is a team-best
- Four players for Post University are still in search of their first Singles win of the season, but five of the six players who have participated regularly in the Singles this spring have at least one win -- Niklas Langenfeld is still vying for his first Singles win of the season, starting 0-8 on the year
- Dating back to last season, the Eagles are 1-12 in their last thirteen matches and have lost four straight
- Post University has lost seven consecutive matches dating back to the 2018-19 season against Jefferson University with two of the last three coming by way of a 7-0 sweep for the Rams
WHO'S NEXT
Post University will stay home for a Monday early afternoon matchup against Chestnut Hill College scheduled for 12:00 PM at the Edgewood Bath and Tennis Club in Middlebury, Connecticut. The Eagles are 1-25 all-time against the Griffins, last beating them at home during the 2022-23 season, 4-3, before dropping the last three matches against them all of which came on the road in April.
