WASHINGTON, D.C. – It had been just over five months since the last time Post University Men's Tennis took to the courts as the spring season got underway on Monday afternoon during spring break for the Eagles. Post used the week-long break to start things off against the University of the District of Columbia, dropping the match 6-1, as sophomore
Josh Cronje earned the lone point of the day for the Eagles.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Graduate student
Gustavo Kerber and junior
Anton Andersson teamed up in the #1 Doubles but were unable to knock off the duo of graduate student Luis Mangeon and sophomore Louka Queguiner, falling 6-1. That would be the same defeat for the Eagles in the #2 Doubles as senior Mauricio Corty and junior Oskar Karos took down sophomore
Tobias Strauss and senior
Niklas Langenfeld to earn the doubles point for the Firebirds.
Sophomore
Josh Cronje and junior
Dante Despontin earned the #3 Doubles win for Post, defeating senior Antonio Simo Durall and graduate student Juan Estevez Hernandez, 6-3.
Cronje would go on to earn the only Singles match point for the Eagles, winning the #5 Singles over Karos with relative ease, 6-2 and 6-0. But the rest of the matches would go in favor of the home team starting with Mangeon over Kerber in the #1 Singles by scores of 6-3 and 7-6 on a 7-5 tiebreaker point. Queguiner took care of business against Andersson in the #2 Singles also in straight sets with a 7-6 first set win on a 7-3 tiebreaker point before a 6-3 second set helped his team clinch the team victory with the minimum four team points.
Simo Durall was the winner of the #3 Singles for the Firebirds after posting a 6-2 first set win followed by a hard-fought 7-5 win over Despontin in set two while Hernandez got a three-set win over Langenfeld by scores of 6-3, 4-6, and 6-4.
Junior
Ivan Kolchanov got the start in the #6 Singles for Post which would be the final point of the day for the Firebirds as he was defeated by Corty in two sets, 6-4 and 6-1.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Josh Cronje moved to 2-1 in Doubles this season and 1-1 in Singles after winning the doubles with Dante Despontin and earning the lone Singles point for Post
- Dating back to last season, the Eagles are 1-7 in their last eight matches and have lost four straight
- Five Post players are still in search of their first Singles win of the season
- Post University is now 1-4 all-time against the University of the District of Columbia, having beaten them back during the 2021-22 season to snap a three-game losing streak in the series
WHO'S NEXT
It will be a quick turnaround for Post University as they get right back on the courts tomorrow afternoon at 3:00 PM for a matchup against Millersville University. This will be the second meeting all-time between the two programs with the last coming during the 2019 season which ended in a 5-2 win for the Eagles.
