Women's Basketball Soars Over Falcons, 66-58

WATERBURY, Conn. – It was a team victory on Drubner court this afternoon as every player on the Post Women's Basketball team recorded at least two points to guide the Eagles to a 66-58 conference win over the Felician University Golden Falcons. After heading into the break ahead by just one basket, the Eagles outplayed Felician offensively in the third and fourth quarters to snatch the big win and hand the Falcons their fifth CACC loss.

THE BASICS

Post University 66, Felician University 58

Post University (16-8, 11-3 CACC)

Felician University (10-14, 10-5 CACC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Golden Falcons were the first to score, taking a 4-0 edge before Tijanae Simmons landed a three to get the Eagles on the board at the 8:14 mark. However, Felician answered back with a nine-point run to take the double-digit lead with less than five minutes remaining in the first quarter (13-3). It wasn't long before a Trinity Bravo three got her squad rolling as the Eagles soon chipped away to shrink their margin to three topped off by a Maya Klein jumper (10-13). However, the visitors were able to hold onto their advantage heading into the next quarter, 20-14.

After almost two minutes of scoreless action, both squads traded layups moments before Klein sunk a three after a fastbreak thanks to a handoff by Naj White to come within three (19-22). At the 5:31 mark Roxkel Washington tied it up 24-24 with a jumper in a pant thanks to a feed from Dede Stevenson. Just 26 ticks later, Post took their first lead of the game off a Klein basket from downtown (27-24). The Eagles held the slight edge until 3:53 when Felician reclaimed a one-point advantage (30-29), however, the home squad answered back to take a four-point lead with 2:21 to go before entering the half, 36-34.

After two, ten-minute periods, Felician led the Eagles in field goal percentage with 46.7 compared to Post's 35.1, however, the Eagles were able to grab 25 total rebounds which was a whole 10 more than Felician (15). Overall, Felician held the lead for 74.6 percent of the half with their largest lead being 10-4 while Post's largest edge was four points when they were ahead, 34-30. After the half, Maya Klein was 4-for-7 from three-point land while recording 14 points.

Coming back from the break, the Falcons attempted to take back the edge, but the Eagles one-upped their guests offensively until 3:26 was on the clock when Felician took advantage of the charity stripe, netting both baskets to knot it up at 42-all. Next, the squads traded baskets, but the Eagles remained ahead as they ended the third, 49-46.

In the final frame, Taina Pagan gave the Eagles their largest margin of the afternoon (five) after landing a layup in the paint to bring the score to 51-46. Post went on to take a seven-point lead (55-48) but the Falcons battled back to a one-point deficit (56-57) with 3:56 remaining in regulation before the home squad went on to book eight unanswered points, sealing the 66-58 victory.
