Waterbury, CT - The Post university women's basketball team held a double-digit lead early, but lost a 77-71 game to Jefferson in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action.
Post is now 14-9 overall and 9-4 in the CACC. Jefferson is 20-3 overall and 11-1 in the CACC.
The Eagles caught fire in the first quarter going 11-for 15 (73.3 percent) from the field including ten points from
Sha'Raya Haines. Post went 5-for-7 from three, as Haines hit two, and
Jailah White, Jayden Burns and
Tyara McQueen hit one. Post led by as much as 18 points at 28-10. Jefferson would score the last six points of the quarter, the final four coming from Haley Meinel as the Eagles led 28-16 going into the second.
Jefferson rallied in the second quarter, outscoring the Eagles 21-11, thanks to seven points from Cassie Murphy as well as the Rams going 11-for-13 from the free-throw line. White scored four points in the quarter for the Eagles as they took a 39-37 lead into the half.
Jefferson went on a 12-4 run to start the third quarter, but
Kiara Eubanks took over for the Eagles, scoring 11 points on 4-for-8 shooting and bringing the Eagles back in front 54-53 with 1:47 remaining. The two teams swapped leads three more times before another layup by Eubanks gave the Eagles a 58-57 lead.
Roxkel Washington finished the quarter with a layup at the buzzer to put Post back up, 60-57.
In the fourth, the Eagles took a 70-65 lead after a three from Eubanks and Haines at the 4:47 mark, but the Rams scored the next six to go up 71-70. Eubanks tied up the game one more time at the 2:22 mark with a free throw, but it would be the last points of the game for the Eagles as the Rams went 6-for-6 from the free-throw line the rest of the way.
Eubanks finished with a season-high 20 points to lead the Eagles to go with four rebounds. Haines scored 18 points with three rebounds.
Tyree Allen scored eight. White finished with seven points, four rebounds and two steals. McQueen scored eight points with three rebounds and three assists. Burns finished with six points.
The loss snapped a four-game winning streak for the Eagles.
Murphy finished with 21 points for the Rams. MMorgan Robinson scored 16 to go with six assists. Sam Yencha had a double-double with 11 points and 13 rebounds.
