Klein Nets 30 For Women's Basketball In 92-76 CACC Victory Over Bears

WATERBURY, Conn. – Post University Women's Basketball invited the Bloomfield Bears to the Drubner Center this afternoon for a CACC match up where graduate student Maya Klein guided the Eagles to a dominant 92-76 victory with a career-high 30 points.

With the win, Post continues their undefeated streak in Conference action, moving to 2-0 on the season. Leading scorer, Klein, went 10-for-17 for field goals, 8-for-14 for three-pointers, while shooting perfectly from the free throw line (2-for-2) as well as grabbing a trio of steals. The next best scorers for the Eagles were TiJanae Simmons and Trinity Bravo who chipped in 11 points each. The Eagles improved from last year, scoring a whopping 10 more points than their previous match up against Bloomfield while holding them to 76 points once again (82-76).

HOW IT HAPPENED
Sharp-shooter Klein made her presence known early on in the game, sinking one from downtown just eight seconds after tip-off, catalyzing a 15-point run before the Bears were even able to get on the board with 5:27 left in the first (2-15). Bloomfield was able to add another tally to their score before the Eagles continued to dominate the court, eventually grabbing a sizable 19-point lead thanks to an earth shattering three from Simmons with 2:04 to go (24-5). The Bears were able to claw their way back to an 11-point deficit bringing the score to 13-24 but in the remaining minute Post was able to extend their edge to 17 heading into the next frame, 30-13.

It was déjà vu as Klein opened the second quarter with another one from behind the arc to give her team a 20-point lead before bringing the score to 35-13 after the hot-handed shooter landed one in the paint. With 6:15 on the clock, the Eagles took their most substantial advantage of the game (+28) after a good free throw from Naj White (43-15). With half the period to go, the Bears were able to chip away, before heading into the break down by 19 (32-51).

The Eagles held tight to their extensive lead for the majority of the third frame, however, Bloomfield did not go down easy as a three from Taneshia Tucker got the Bears rolling as they scored eight points in a row to head into the final 10, down by just 10 points (57-67).

After almost a full minute of scoreless action, White net the first basket of the fourth quarter with a good free throw before the Bears swiftly regained their 10-point deficit. However, with 6:41 remaining, the Eagles turned it up a notch, going on a 12-point rally to reclaim their massive 20-point lead topped off by a White jumper with 3:47 left in regulation. Bloomfield attempted to make a comeback, but the Eagles stayed in control, taking the eventual 92-76 CACC victory.
