Women’s Basketball Falls Short In Loss To Felician

Waterbury, Conn. – The Post University women's basketball game team fell to Felician, 80-71 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) game on Tuesday evening at the Drubner Center.

The Eagles are now 9-3 overall and 3-1 in CACC play.

Makayla Thompson led the way for the Eagles with 21 points to go along with five assists and four steals. Jaeonna Sutton had 14 points and four rebounds and four steals while Tai Pagan notched her second double-double of the season with ten points and 11 rebounds.

The Eagles trailed by as much as eight points at 16-8 in the first quarter before closing the gap to 24-19 after the first ten minutes of play behind seven points from Amaya Santiago.

Post took a 43-40 lead into the half behind Thompson and Sutton, who scored seven and six points, respectively in the quarter. The Eagles opened the quarter on an 8-2 run, highlighted by a three from Sha'Raya Haines and a layup and free-throw from Sutton to take a 27-26 lead at the 8:52 mark. The teams battled between one and two possessions the rest of the quarter, and the Eagles finished on a 7-0 run to take the three-point lead, the last three points coming on a three from Sutton.

The Eagles led by as much as eight points in the third and took a 56-51 lead heading into the fourth behind four points apiece from Thompson and Sutton.

In the fourth, the Eagles again increased their lead to eight at 61-53 with 8:05 remaining, but a 14-4 run by Felician gave them their first lead of the second half at 67-65 with 3:43 remaining. The two teams would remain tight until a three from Felician's Catherine Lecop gave the Golden Falcons a 76-71 lead with 1:04 left. They would go 4-for-4 down the stretch from the free-throw line to seal the game.

Post forced 30 turnovers on Felician, their highest total of the season. Thompson's 21 points were a season-high.

Felician's Briana Lee led the Golden Falcons with 14 points and 20 rebounds. Lecop also finished with 14 points.

Up next, the Eagles host Caldwell on Jan. 20 at 5:30 p.m. in a CACC match at the Drubner Center.
