Philadelphia, Pa. – Sophomore Sha'Raya Haines scored a game-high 24 points, but the Post University women's basketball team was eliminated in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) tournament on Saturday, 59-50 to Holy Family on the campus of University of the Sciences.
After surrendering the first three points of the game, the Eagles scored the next eight to take an 8-3 lead, as Haines scored six points during the run. The Tigers rallied and took a 17-12 lead on a layup from Moe Moore at the 2:34 mark, but a three from Haines cut the deficit to 17-15 for the Eagles. The Tigers would take a 21-17 after the first quarter.
The Eagles – who were the number one seed in the North Division - jumped out to a 10-2 run to start the second quarter as Haines scored the final eight points of the run, after senior Taylor Ceballos started it, to give the Eagles a 27-23 lead with 5:21 remaining in the quarter. Holy Family ended the quarter on an 8-0 run to take a 31-27 lead at the break.
Haines had 19 points in the first half, while freshman Tai Pagan had four points and six rebounds after the first 20 minutes of action.
Holy Family extended its lead to 36-29 halfway through the third, but a basket by Haines and five points from Pagan, sandwiched by a basket from Holy Family's Elizabeth Radley made it a 38-36 Holy Family lead heading into the fourth.
In the fourth, however, the Tigers scored the first six points and took a 44-36 lead at the 8:45 mark after a layup and free throw from Moe Moore. The Eagles wouldn't get closer than seven points the rest of the way as Holy Family thwarted any rally.
Pagan finished with a double-double, her sixth of the season, scoring 13 points and grabbing ten rebounds. It was her 13th double digit rebound performance of the season. Junior Angelica Flores grabbed seven rebounds to go along with three points. Ceballos had four points. Senior Mia Crooms had four points and three rebounds. Junior Hannah Benac grabbed six rebounds.
Moore finished with 14 points and 12 rebounds for Holy Family. Mia Ehling led the Tigers with 17 points.
The loss ends the 2019-2020 season for the Eagles, who had a program record 22-6 record and also won its first North Division title and made its first CACC Semifinals appearance.
