Pagan Has Monster Game As Women’s Basketball Dispatches Of Chestnut Hill

Waterbury, Conn. -  Freshman Tai Pagan had 19 points and 18 rebounds and junior Hannah Benac scored 19 points as the Post University women's basketball team led wire-to-wire in a 90-62 win over Chestnut Hill in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) game.

It was the second straight win for the Eagles, who have won their last two games and remain undefeated at home at 8-0.

Post remains in first place in the CACC North at 13-4 and 8-2 in the conference.

Six Eagles scored in double-figures, including freshman Jimmirah Johnson who notched her first double-double of the season with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Sophomore Sha'Raya Haines flirted with a triple-double, scoring 14 points, grabbing eight rebounds and dishing out eight assists.

The Eagles jumped out to an 8-0 lead as Benac hit two three-pointers to jump start the offensive attack. The Griffins crept back to within three points at 15-12, but two layups from Pagan, one from Johnson and a three from junior Angelica Flores put the Eagles back up 24-16. They'd lead 29-18 at the end of the first behind Benac's eight points and seven from junior Taylor Williams.

Post tightened its grip on the game in the second quarter behind two another eight points from Benac, including two three pointers. Pagan grabbed six rebounds in the quarter, three on the offensive side, to go along with her four points. The Eagles would lead by as much as 20 in the quarter and take a 49-31 lead into halftime.

The two teams traded baskets over the first five minutes of the third quarter, as the Eagles held a 62-45 lead at that point before a layup from Pagan triggered a 14-6 run over the final five minutes. Benac and Flores each hit a three during the run, while Pagan scored four points during the stretch and ten in the quarter. Haines scored five of her 14 points in the game during the quarter.

Chestnut Hill never threatened in the final quarter as the Eagles were able to put the game away.

Post was relentless on the boards, outrebounding the Griffins, 61-19, including 23 offensive rebounds. Those led to 17 second chance points. Post dominated the paint with a 46-18 scoring advantage.

Williams finished with 16 points and nine rebounds. Flores finished with ten points on the day for the Eagles.
