Eagles Lead Early On, But Fall To Caldwell, 79-69

Waterbury, Conn. – Junior Gabriela Middleton (Coral Springs, Fla.) scored 14 points and came close to a triple-double, but the Post University women's basketball team lost to Caldwell in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game, 79-69.

Middleton also had nine rebounds and seven assists, as the Eagles jumped out to a 22-11 lead early in the first quarter. With the Eagles up 8-7, freshman Meaghan Gotham (Revere, Mass.) help lead the offensive charge during a 14-4 run scoring six points during the stretch. Middleton, juniors Toni Deren (Greenlawn, N.Y.), Kiana Nichols (Newburgh, N.Y.) and Lauren Chambers (Lebanon, Pa.) also scored during the run.

The Eagles ended the first quarter up 22-19 and held the lead until the 1:30 mark of the second quarter when Kristen Siscamanis made a layup to give Caldwell a 34-33 lead. The Cougars took a 38-33 heading into the half. Gotham finished with ten points off the bench in the first half for the Eagles.

Post (7-17, 6-12 CACC) scored the first five points of the third quarter on layup from Nichols and a three-pointer by Middleton, as the two teams played tightly for the first 6:35 of the quarter. Caldwell finished the quarter on a 9-2 run to go up 60-50 heading into the fourth.

In the fourth, Caldwell (23-4, 16-2 CACC) went up 64-50 before the Eagles went on a 16-8 run, capped by a traditional three-point play by graduate student Jasmyne Fogle (Bridgeport, Conn.) to make it a 72-66 game with 2:50 left. It would be as close as the Eagles would get as Caldwell held off the rally in the end.

Fogle finished with 12 points. Chambers and Nichols each had ten. Gotham finished with ten points and Deren with eight as the Eagles bench outscored Caldwell's, 18-16.

Kristen Drogsler and Siscamanis each scored 17 to lead Caldwell.
