Gregory Schmidt Named Men’s and Women’s Cross Country, Track and Field Head Coach

Waterbury, Conn. - Gregory Schmidt has surpassed the interim title and has officially been named head coach of men's and women's cross country and track and field. Gregory will assume the role of head coach on top of his current duties as the strength and conditioning coach. 

Gregory has seen much success in his coaching career, including:

  • Coached 22 athletes at Post University to school records in two years
  • Coached 3 national champions at the NCAA Division II and NJCAA Division I levels.
  • Assisted in the training of 2013 Outdoor NCAA Division II national champion Brenae Edwards in the 10,000 meters
  • Served as the CACC Representative for the USTFCCCA Division II Executive Committee.  Formerly served the same role as representative for the GLIAC Conference

Athletic Director Ronnie Palmer on the newest head coaching hire - "We believe Gregg is eager to hit the ground running as our New Head Coach. Gregg's overall knowledge of all aspects regrading XC/TF will allow him to  move the program in a tremendous direction. His enthusiasm and love for coaching will certainly raise the level of our program", Palmer said. "We are excited to see Coach Schmidt lead our XC/T&F Student Athletes."

Gregg is eager for the chance to display his extensive background in both sports, "I am excited at the opportunity to lead the Cross Country/Track and Field programs here at Post," Schmidt said. "As assistant the past two seasons I've been proud of the huge amount of progress that the program(s) have already seen and will continually work to see both the men's and women's programs continue to grow and evolve into strong conference, regional and national contenders." He went on to say, "I also feel privileged and excited to be the one chosen to lead the men's and women's track and field programs into their first season sponsoring indoor track and field."

The Track and Field season will begin this weekend (12/7, 12/8) with the Elm City Challenge hosted by Southern Connecticut State University.  Post will begin at 1pm with the women's 55m dash on Friday.

Regional XC champion and NCAA qualifier Kendall Fitzgerald will competing in the women's 4x800 meter relay on Saturday.  

14 new eagles and 14 returning eagles will be competing at this first competition.
