Waterbury, Conn. - The Post University Sprint football team held a ten point lead heading in to the fourth quarter but lost 14-10 to Mansfield in a Collegiate Sprint Football League matchup at LaMoy Field Saturday afternoon.
Post got on the board in the first quarter as senior
Buddy Enriquez (Sacramento, Calif) hit a 22-yard field goal to give the Eagles a 3-0 lead with 9:39 remaining.
The defense would supply the scoring with 3:56 remaining as a Mansfield fumble cost them 45 yards and senior
Ladarrius Phillips (Tuscaloosa, Ala.) jumped on the ball in the endzone to give the Eagles the 10-0 lead.
Post's defense would put together an impressive defensive performance throughout, giving up just 181 yards of total offense, including -24 passing yards.
However, in the fourth quarter, Mansfield got enough offense going, first on a two-yard touchdown run by David Butler after the Eagles fumbled at their own 48 yard line. They'd follow that touchdown with a methodical 11 play 75 yard drive, capped by a 1-yard touchdown to give them a 14-10 lead over the Eagles.
The Eagles were unable to move the ball on their next possession, ending a chance at a comeback.
As a team, the Eagles ran 32 times for 122 yards. Leading the way was freshman
Kevin Dean with 51 yards on 14 carries.
The Eagles (1-3) finished with five sacks on the day to go along with three pass breakups and an interception from freshman
Cody Borges.
Butler led Mansfield (1-3) with 99 yards on 11 carries and a touchdown.
Up next for the Eagles (1-3) is a home game against Army at Municipal Stadium on October 20 at 7 p.m.
