Recap: Eagles Come Up Short Against Philadelphia

Take Top Team In CACC To The Wire

Box Score

Waterbury, Conn. – Senior Raven Wright-James (Middletown, Conn.) had another double-double, but it wasn't enough as the Post University women's basketball team dropped a tight 81-78 decision to the Philadelphia Rams in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference matchup on Saturday.

The Eagles missed a chance to tie the game on free throws and missed a chance in the waning seconds to tie it from three-point land.

The loss snapped a three-game winning streak for the Eagles. They are now 8-12 overall and 8-6 in the CACC.

The teams went back and forth for the first six minutes of the game before the Eagles jumped out to a 9-0 run, turning an 18-16 deficit to a 25-18 lead. During that stretch, freshman Liz Falcigno (Middletown, Conn.) hit back-to-back three-pointers, and sophomore Hailey Griffin (Plainfield, Conn.) hit a three-pointer as well.

Philadelphia fought back with a 13-4 run of their own, highlighted by five points from Tori Arnao. It gave the Rams a 31-29 lead.

The Eagles crawled back, and the teams traded hoops before Post went on an 8-4 run to end the half, thanks in large part to two three-pointers from senior and school all-time leading scorer, Aubrey Latham (Mystic, Conn.). The Eagles would go into the half up 48-44.

Griffin finished with 13 points in the half and Falcigno finished with 10. Wright-James had nine points and seven rebounds in the half.

The second half started the same way the first half did, with the teams trading baskets for the course of the first nine minutes. Up 65-62, the Rams then went on a 10-2 run to take their largest lead of the game at 75-64.

Post fought back and had a chance to tie the game after junior Jacquelynne Pugh (Grahamsville, N.Y.) was fouled going up for a layup with the score 79-77. Pugh missed the front end, but made the second, cutting the deficit to one. After two free throws from Philadelphia's Najah Jacobs, Latham's three-bounced off the rim to end the game.

Wright-James finished with 15 points and 17 rebounds. Griffin and Falcigno both finished with 17 points and Latham finished with 13.

Philadelphia had two players with double-doubles on the evening. Bria Young scored 18 points and grabbed 10 boards for the Rams and Tori Arnao had 15 points and 13 rebounds. The Rams moved to 15-5 overall and are still undefeated in the CACC at 13-0.

Up next for the Eagles is another CACC matchup on the road against the Caldwell Cougars on Feb. 11. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
