Waterbury, Conn. – All five starters scored in double figures as the Post University Eagles women's basketball team defeated the Chestnut Hill Griffins, 89-73 at the Drubner Center on Saturday afternoon. The win snapped a two-game losing streak for Post now stands at 9-13 overall and 9-7 in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC).
Senior Aubrey Latham (Mystic, Conn.) led the balanced scoring attack as she scored 25 points on 12-for-17 shooting. Freshman Liz Falcigno (Middletown, Conn.) chipped in with 16 points and eight rebounds, sophomore
Hailey Griffin (Plainfield, Conn.) had 15 points and eight rebounds, senior Raven Wright-James (Middletown, Conn.) had a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds and junior Jacquelynne Pugh (Grahamsville, N.Y.) scored 11 points.
The first half of the game saw the two teams exchange leads nine times; with Post taking a 13 point lead during the half before the Griffins put together a 21-8 run to tie the game at 39. Before the half ended, however, Latham scored four straight points to put the Eagles up 45-41 at the break.
The second half saw the Eagles immediately go up by 13 again, going on a 9-0 run to start the half. Within three and a half minutes, the Griffins tied it up again on a Shayla Felder layup, putting the score at 58 apiece.
It would be the last time the teams would be tied, or even close for that matter as Post answered with a 10-0 run and never led by less than six points the rest of the way.
Olivia Gorczynski led the Griffins (7-16, 5-11 CACC) with 22 points including hitting six three-pointers. Annie Farrow had a double-double, scoring 13 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.
Up next for the Eagles is a matchup against Bloomfield at the Drubner Center on Feb. 18 at 6 p.m.
