WATERBURY, Conn. – The Post University athletic department is excited to announce track and field as its 19
th intercollegiate sport. Post will field both a men's and women's program to be led by current cross country head coach
William Ferrare.
"I am honored to have an opportunity to build a track and field program from the ground up," said Ferrare. "Adding the program will attract more student-athletes to Post and help not only the athletic department, but the university as a whole."
The Eagles will compete in a full meet schedule beginning in the spring of 2014. Post will participate in meets within the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) as well as events throughout New England.
"We are very excited to start outdoor track and field here at Post University and feel it will add more quality student-athletes to our community," Interim Director of Athletics
Michael Mannetti said. "Our athletics program here at Post has grown tremendously over the past few years and with the addition of outdoor track, our administration has shown its commitment to our athletics program and our student-athletes."
Post becomes the seventh CACC institution to introduce track and field. Two schools in the conference (Caldwell and Dominican) only support women's track and field. The Eagles are the third NCAA Division II program in Connecticut.
Mario Longo, the assistant cross country coach, will assist Ferrare with all aspects of the program.
"Coach Ferrare and coach Longo are, without a doubt, the quality of coaches we need to run a program as extensive as the outdoor track team. They have done a great job with our cross country teams and there was no doubt to just move them over to the spring," added Mannetti.
The CACC has scheduled a women's track and field championship for spring 2014.
